Looking for nicer hotel that's quiet and close...any suggestions?

Please tell me your opinion on which hotel(s) would be best for our situation...

Just hubby and I going to Disneyland. Our legs aren't what they used to be, so every step we can save is very important. Ideally we'd like a hotel within walking distance so we don't have to bother with a shuttle, but some hotels like Ho Jo seem SO far away when your legs hurt! We'd rather stay in a nicer than average place with not so many kids running up and down the hallways. The Disney hotels are so expensive-- and it looks like you have to walk just as far as a non-Disney hotel unless you stay at the Grand Californian.

I'm leaning towards Hilton Anaheim, but am also considering Anabella Hotel or Clarion Hotel. I would appreciate your thoughts on this!

Also, I'm looking at a package deal with GetAwayToday or CSAA. Has anyone had problems with those package plans?

The Hilton's not what I would consider walking distance, but I think it has a shuttle. You might also try the Candy Cane or the Holiday Inn on Katella. (There are two Holiday Inns in the area.) The Portofino is one of the newer ones and looks nice, at least from the outside.

The problem is that few of the hotels that are actually walking distance are really that nice. Most of them are converted motor lodges from the '70s or before.

I have stayed at the Hilton Anaheim, and with an ART pass, it is a good choice. I liked the room, and the restaurant in the lobby was a big plus.

I also stayed at Candy Cane Inn, and they have their own shuttle which doesn't require an extra fee. Once you learn the time schedule for the shuttle, it is very convenient. I also like their breakfast options, and the room was very comfortable.

Howard Johnson is not that far, and they are serviced by ART. I never heard a lot of screaming children, but I stayed there in January.

My daughter and I are staying at the Tropicana next month. It is just your basic place to stay, but its location is terrific. Since we spend most of our time at the parks anyway, so I don't mind that the accomidations are just OK. We always ask to stay on the top floor, that way we have no one above us... We love that the place is located accross the street from the park.

We have stayed at places that have their own shuttles, and even a location that required we use ART to get back and forth. But with all those, we were then subject to the schedule of transportation rather than whenever we wanted a quick break in the afternoon. It seemed we were always having to wait for our ride; we do enough waiting in the parks.

We have stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn, The Carousel Inn, The Del Sol and of course The Tropicana. All are very close to the Maingate, even closer walking than some of the Disney Properties. Check out their website, as well as others:

Anabella is a wonderful, wonderful hotel, with some great discounts for MiceChatters. Though, if the Grand California is a long walk in your eyes, you have to walk through the lobby of the GCH to get to the Anabella, so it might not be the best option. Though, the walk is a pleasant one through nice grounds.

It's definitely worth considering at least!

I like the Anabella for an adult trip... its close enough to walk to the park. The rooms are nicer than many hotels in the area and it is still pretty affordable. The pool is nice too!

The Anabella is also serviced by the ART system. I'm not sure exactly where the shuttle stop is, but there is one over there.

The Anabella is not an easy walk to the park, but even though HoJo's is serviced by the ART shuttles, its really only about a 10-15 minute walk to the front gate. Its nice to have the shuttle service, but its really not a bad walk even at night. I've stayed at the Quality Inn on Manchester across from HoJo's many times and have never felt afraid walking back to the motel even late at night.

I always stay at the Ramada Plaza Hotel Anaheim. It is on Katella at Harbor Blvd. The staff is friendly, the rooms and beds are comfortable, and it is a closer walk than the Hilton or Clarion. I've stayed there many times and I've never had a problem with kids running up and down the hallways. There is an ART stop in front of the hotel. Good luck!

I second Barbarann on Anaheim Hilton-The ART is directly in front of the Hotel, theres a Starbucks, lounge and restraunt right in the lobby and the service is wonderful. It is however not what I wiuld consider walking distance.

We just returned from a week at the Camelot Inn booked through Get Away Today and couldn't be happier. We got a good rate on the room and the park hopper tickets are slightly discounted through them. Our room was clean and looked to be recently remodeled. The short walk across the street was very nice. We walked back to the room every afternoon for a quick nap or soak in the hot tub. The staff was extremely nice. We were on the 4th floor and it was quiet. My only complaint was that we had to pay for parking ($9 per night) and there wasn't always enough spaces in the self-park so we needed to use a valet a couple of times. The valet was free but they kept our keys and we needed to tip every time they brought the car out. They have a breakfast but it is pretty limited--pastries, cereal, coffee, juice and orange and apples. Another option might be the Fairfield Inn. I bit further down the road, but definitely walk-able. Seemed to be a notch or two above the Camelot/Tropicana/Carousel.

We like the premium rooms at the Candy Cane Inn. Good location (ours was close to the lobby and shuttle -- less walking for things), bathrobes provided in the room, and breakfast delivered to your room. The service was great -- the staff made us feel special!

The OC Hyatt mentioned above is very nice, but definitely not walkable. It is about a mile down Harbor. They are on the ART route.

Across the street from Anabella is the Best Western Plus Stovall's Inn which we are booked for our trip to DLR in November. I have never stayed there but have read tons and tons of reviews on this property. It has been recently renovated and upgraded, too. Just another suggestion for you to consider.

You can also walk to Toy Story Parking from the Hilton, The Disney Shuttle is more than happy to take you to the park. (Basically it's a block of a walk).

The Hilton is decent, it's typical Hilton... all business, but clean and lots of services. I've been getting it lately cheap from Last Minute Travel (key to finding it as a "Hidden" hotel deal is to look at the pictures, the one with the starbucks... ding!)

Whenever we stay off property, its always the Candy Cane Inn. Have stayed at Sheraton Anaheim too, it has a shuttle, but still prefer Candy Cane. We've been staying there more years than I remember and I still like it.

We have stayed at the Shearton Park before and are staying there in February. It is a nice quiet hotel. It is a bit of a walk (15 min.) but the ART stops right at the hotel so it makes it perfect. They have several resturants & bars inhouse.

Just stayed at the Candy Cane and it was a great hotel for saving your legs. The hotel shuttle was great! It makes two trips every hour so you have a good chance of getting onboard and isnt time consuming. The hotel isnt that far either so walking isnt too bad. The Hilton is great too. Super comfy beds and Starbucks in the lobby. Never took the ART but we walked to the Toy Story lot and took the free shuttle from there. A lot more time consuming though. I think costco.com has a great deal with 4th night free, $20 disney gift card and 2 Character brekfasts. Great Deal
