  • Is the Disney Dining Plan worth the money

I am planning my family's trip to Disneyland and was wondering if anyone has tried the Disney Dining plan with their vacation package. I am trying to figure out if it is worth the extra money.

If anyone has tried this at Disneyland I would love to hear about it.

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

Although I am a local we did spend a few nights at the parks a couple years ago and did get the dining plan. I do not feel like it is worth it because it comes with specific dining optoins (like breakfast ini the park) that we didnt use, so money wasted.

With so many dining choices close to DL outside of the park and DTD, I would not get the dining plan for Disneyland.

    A little piece of heaven

We always get it with our vacation planning there are a couple benefis saving money is not one of them. For us its nice to know that things are taken care of we like to walk into DL a be kids and not have to worry about budgets and such.they will not make change for the vouchers so you have to be careful although with some planning this works out ok. we had the five day meal plan and were there for 8 days and for two adults and a child we made the meals stretch almost the whole trip. there were times when a snack want going to use up a whole voucher so we would pick up a bottle of water and put it int he back pack for later. All in all no money savings but it makes planning easy.

For convenience and having things taken care of ahead of time, I prefer to buy giftcards and a few disney dollars (for the outdoor vendors) and just spend from those!

We did the 3 day plan on our last trip and swore never again. Unfortunately, we had multiple experiences with cast members who were unaware of what the vouchers were and how to process them. All in all, it wasn't in any way convenient and ended up being a bit of a hassle at times.

You can purchase them at local Disney Stores, the Disney Resorts/Parks and you can order them online. But, there may be a fee to order online; there was when i checked about a year ago.

I decided against the gift cards, there are to many ristrictions. I went ahead and added the disney dining plan to our package. I will get gift card only for the gifts we plan on brining home. We have always used the dining plan, I love the fact you can pay for them over time. We got the 6 day plan and it works wonderful for us. I always bring extra cash for when you give them a 5.00 voucher and the item is like 3.00. you do not get change back so we always get 2 items and pay the extra with cash.
if you are on a tight budget and are paying for your package over time the meal plan is the way to go in my opinion.

A friend of mine went to disneyland last year. Instead of buying the meal plan she bought visa gift cards at walmart. They come in $50 and $100 amounts and can be used like a regular credit card.
Also now instead of travelers checks you can also get a credit card device that is just like travelers checks....which is what I will most likely do the next time I go.
Can you purchase a meal plan that is for less days than the amount of days you will be visiting the park? That way I would think you would use them all for sure!!
Any day at Disneyland is a Happy Day!!!! :ap:

Yes you can, but the dining plan starts with a minimum 3 day plan.

We have used the dining plan mulitple times. Once you get the hang of things, it works great. I love to have the trip all paid in advance.

Im with you, I love the dining plan because by the time we go, all the package including the meal plan is paid for. I have never had a problem using them and fid them super easy.
if you want the meals paid for in advance get em, it helps when your broke and need to pay over time. if you have the money on hand use the money. I buy a package so I get time to pay for the whole package deal. I love that fact. we are staying 7 days and added the 6 day meal plan again . anything extra we will use cash. we found that there was vouchers left over a few times, I gave them to best friends to use. All in all if you are doing a package and need to pay over time.... get em.... if not and you have the cash in your pocket use that.

I forgot to mention that you can use the Breakfast in the Park towards breakfast at Plaza Inn for the character breakfast. We did that one trip.

We never use it simply because we also like to eat outside the park.

Enjoying the warmth and sunshine of Phoenix between Disney trips.
