But it's still there for a photo op, and I think it's still possible to pull it out (to an extent).

The sword is there but the ceremony is gone The sword doesn't move when you try to pull it out.

Wish the ceremony still took place, always fun to watch. I think the Sword will be there forever though. At least I hope...

Give it time. Sadly. I'm surprised they haven't found a way to work Darth Vader into Fantasyland.

Wait, they don't do the Sword in the Stone ceremony anymore?

I remember getting crowned as Queen of Disneyland for a day (I don't remember what Merlin actually called it, all I know is that I was six, or thereabouts, and thought I was the coolest kid in the park for pulling the sword).

Actually, if you see a green light on in one of the Fantasyland windows, it means that the sword is unlocked and you can still pull it out. It doesn’t happen very often, but occasionally it does.

If the sword in the stone wasn’t so connected to King Arthur’s Carousel, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to replace it with Thor’s hammer. It would fit in very well with Fantasyland. However, being so close to the carousel, it wouldn’t thematically fit. The sword in the stone is part of the Arthur legend.

Do you remember which window it is specifically? I've always seen the sword locked in tight...

Such a shame. I still remember when I pulled it out. It was my birthday and my mother separated from the family and walked over to the back stage crossing between Fantasyland and Big Thunder Trail (I think that's what it's called?). Somehow she got alongside Merlin before too many people realized he was out and about, on his way to the Sword in the Stone (this was several years ago, it seemed like characters didn't have escorts back then, but I'm sure I just never noticed them as a child). She told him it was my birthday and somehow she pointed me out to him through the thickets of kids. I was oblivious to the whole procedure. He picked me and I still have the proclamation and medal hanging in my house.

If I recall correctly, if you stand at the sword with your back to the carousel, look towards the front left, one of the second story windows will have either a little red light (locked) or green light (unlocked) along the bottom edge.
