    Third hotel officially announced

HKDL announced third hotel. Investment is $4.26 billion, it will have 750 rooms and scheduled to open in 2017. The new hotel will be located next to Disney Hollywood Hotel. When it is completed the resort will have about 1,750 rooms.

Both WDC and HK govt will invest in the hotel. $1.7 billion will be invested by WDC, $0.6 billion from HKDL's operating cash reserves, and both HK govt and WDC will provide new loans for the remaining costs.

As WDC will invest $1.7 billion, HK govt will also convert its $1.7 billion loan into equity so it can retain its shareholding percentage.

HKDL will owe both WDC and HK govt $1.1 billion after this deal is done. It will start repaying the loans from 2022.

No concept arts or theme details yet. I expect these to come very soon. Hk govt won't lend money without knowing what exactly is being built.

Apple Daily quoted Andrew Kam, the third hotel will have an adventure and exotic theme. It will be a high-end hotel. He thinks with the Zhuhai-Macau-HK bridge opening in 2016, the hotel will do great business.

Mooo!!! HKDL is all about the money grab! Smaller park bigger profits due to less upkeep....

This is old(ish) news. But HKDL's third hotel budget has been approved by the finance committee of LegCo. I expect work to start very soon.

^I believe there is room for a fourth hotel, and I'd guess that it'd probably happen once a second gate finally gets going.

Well, someone must expect HKDL to do well enough in the future that a 3rd hotel is in the works. Though, what really interest me is while looking at the map, it looks like there is enough room for a 4th hotel sometime in the future.

WDW makes a ton of money off hotels because they have 4 parks and 2 water parks which can allow guests to stay for 7+ days and not leave the resort.
That's actually not strictly true. Many people who visit HKDL chooses to spend at least one night at the resort. If they have plans to visit other parts of town, they will spend the other nights of their stay in other hotels in town.

There is no argument, HKDL needs the third hotel as much for the revenue as well as the capacity. They are not building ahead of their time. They need it. HK needs it.

But, that doesn't matter. All of the Disney Hotels, WDW or not, have very high occupancy rates. The demand is there for more rooms, and evident to Disney to capture the revenue.

That is why WDW has free transportation from the Orlando airport, so they can capture the guests. Captive Customers means more revenue because you sell them necessities and can charge more.

This is why Shanghai is building hotels right off the bat as did HKDL, DLP,TDL, and WDW after Disney made the mistake building DL with no hotels.

To compare the other Disney resorts with 2 parks, DLR has 3 hotels for 20.7 million guests, TDL/TDS have 3 Disney owned hotels for 31.3 million guests, and DLP/WDS have 7 hotels for 14.9 million guests (but their attendance was higher and has been plummeting).

Two things, first as bigglesworth003 said, HKDL's two hotels are near capacity and it is big business for HKDL to make one more hotel.

Second, you said TDR has only 3 Disney-owned hotels, that's true, but there are 5 more official hotels on site and numerous good neighbour hotels nearby. Same for DLR, lots of people stay in nearby hotels actually. HKDL has no other hotels on site. There is only one good neighbour hotel in Discovery Bay and it is still half an hour's drive away and you cannot drive to Discovery Bay (bus and ambulance only).

The hotel is still waiting for HK govt's financial approval. It is nothing to do with the plan or anything, it is just the filibustering of some of the radical democrats that led to the delay. Other projects like the new incinerator's funding is also being held up.

If the funding is not approved before the summer break (July), then the project could suffer some delays.
