  • HK Disneyland ready to host more visitors

THE number of tourists heading to Hong Kong Disneyland during the Spring Festival is expected to surpass last year's record, Bill Ernest, the vice executive president of China's first Disneyland, said yesterday.

From the beginning of this month, the number of mainland tourists surged rapidly, which even accounted for more than 50 percent of the total, Ernest said.

The park also sold 70,000 annual passes, which has surpassed the sales forecast.

The park plans to launch a round of sales promotions in Shanghai, Guangzhou and other big mainland cities in an attempt to increase the number of domestic tourists.

Ernest admitted that the park is not very large at the moment, but an expansion will kick off in the future.

Next year's Animation Academy, Mickey's Waterworks and "It's a small world" will provide tourists an updated Disneyland, said Ernest.

Earlier reports said Hong Kong Disneyland will host no more than 34,000 tourists at one time during the Spring Festival holiday, and the park will keep the ticket price at HK$350 (US$44.83) per adult in the period.

The park suggests that tourists' book tickets in advance because the park will suspend selling tickets when the number of tourists exceeds 34,000.

The park will save quotas for tourists with special-day tickets, but they must visit according to the dates on their tickets. The parks opening hours for the holiday, February 17 to 24, will be from 9am to 9pm.

During the last Lunar New Year holidays, hundreds of tourists with tickets were turned away for two days because the park had reached its capacity.

The park was semi-busy today... but still looked empty in some areas... but whoa! Main Street/Hub did get pretty crowded tonight for the Chinese New year show! I also noticed a lot of APers as well, wearing their APs in their AP-exclusive lanyards.

I went today, and it was deader than a doornail. Rides were almost all a walkon. The River cruise was 15 minutes, but I think that is just because of the time it takes the boats to go around. It was a nice day for a trip to Disneyland.
