(about 2 million resident at Shenzhen are eligible under the new scheme, Shenzhen's population is around 9million to 10 million).

The proposal has been submitted to Mainland China Central Government for approval.

If approved, it would be the 1st step for Hong Kong and Shenzhen to form Greater Hong Kong Metropolis.

With the rest of China now opened up to pseudo-free-market economy, and Hong Kong returning to Chinese rule, Shenzen has lost much of its reason for existence. So maybe unification with Hong Kong is the right way to go.

Ever been on the KCR in the morning rush hour? If you have you would know allot that transit picks up allot of Shenzhen commuter traffic going to Central. People are living in Shenzhen(because its cheaper to buy homes) and working in Hong Kong.

I think most of that crowd has already visited HKDL. They need to have either a university degree or certain amount of money to qualify to be a Shenzhen citizen in the 1st place.

But I do think more co-operation between Shenzhen and HK will be a good thing in the long run. And not just Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macau too when the mega bridge is built.
