Hong Kong Automobile Association and a group of Hong Kong racing drivers showed their support for the construction of a motor racing circuit in Sunny Bay, where there is currently nothing but a car park and bus stop.

Sunny Bay station is where most tourists change trains for the Disneyland line. The motor racing circuit project will need land reclamation.

Personally I don't think a motor racing circuit alone will work financially. I would suggest a motor racing circuit with something like a Ferrari Theme Park. (Not necessarily the Ferrari brand.) But a motorsport themed park within or adjacent to the circuit, plus other auto themed projects, are quite essential for the success of the project.

Personally, I think motor racing circuit is a good idea for the development of Hong Kong Tourism.
This idea raised by Mr Michael Tien, Member of the Legislative Council. He cited several examples of motor racing circuit in other countries, it can have several use apart from car racing.
Of course it is good to add a motorsport themed park into the motor racing circuit.
But it is suitable to have two theme park within a short distance ?

Not gonna happen for sure. Due to shortage of land, people are already talking about demolishing Hong Kong Disney. There are more kids and parents Vs Racing fans. Besides that location in Sunny Bay is tiny, probably more suitable for Driving lessons instead of circuit racing.

The Sunny Bay site is on the flight path of Chek Lap Kok Airport, so no high rise building, thus economical housing, is permitted. The site is no use in terms of HK's housing problems.

Just a update after the Finance Committee
According to the "Deed of restrictive convenant" signed by HKG and WDC at 1999, Sunny Bay is not allowed to develop internationally branded theme park/amusement park
That means it may not develop a motorsport themed park

They could actually use the expansion negotiations to force WDC to forfeit this condition.

Personally, I think the HKG would like to release the restriction of the southern part of HKDL, which is the location of future East Lantau Metropolis rather the the usage of Sunny Bay.

Also, I believed that WDC won't forfeit this condition. They don't want another international theme park just next them

                http://www.scmp.com/sport/other-spor...ly-stupid-idea

James Porteus of the SCMP thinks it is stupid to build a F1 circuit.

Well, maybe not an F1 circuit and most probably not a motorsport circuit all by itself. But I do support his ideas of sports facilities for softball and cricket, etc. Rather stupidly Kai Tak sports hub is not going to cater for those needs.

How about rent the land to "Lai Yuen" theme park. It's a local historical Hong Kong theme park brand (doesnt fall into internationally branded category) They did a great job with the pop-up theme park concept the last 2-3 years. They have been lobbying for land to recreate Lai Yuen Park which most of the HK middle aged people have visited before it closed.

                  OR

Build a local educational farm park with animals and growing vegetables etc. I know there is one in Tai Po, but that one is build on a hill, difficult to walk around for kids or old people.

                  OR

Build an Extreme Sport facility, something like an indoor Skydiving center, kart racing, indoor hill snow skiing...

Actually, Lai Yuen proposed to re-build in Sunny Bay at 2005

For the Extreme Sport facility, the SkyCity which located in Airport already suggested to have some extreme sport facility
