The castle is really coming on leaps and bounds in recent days. I guess the construction will be finished before the year ends, but the decoration and interior will probably require more time.

They need to launch the new castle as soon as possible combined with a huge discount for park entrance tickets. So far HKDL has nothing to write home about this financial year. Ant-Man was disappointing (management mistake), increased ticket prices did more damage then good (management mistake), low attendances due to protests.
2019 is probably the worst year for HKDL.
The Castle is only thing that could give HKDL a breath of fresh air. It should be ready to launch when the protests are over OR the usual, blame the entire year's disappointing performance on the protests and launch the Castle begin next financial year.

It has grown again. I think they are putting all the pre-fabricated parts on the castle, after that they will remove the cranes and start the decoration and interior work. The place look more like a construction site than a theme park right now so I guess they want to get this build up process over quickly. All the work is expected to complete by Spring 2020.

Latest satellite pic of HKDR posted by Mr. B. Castle and Arendelle have work going on which is normal. But Autopia is still there and no sign of any demolition work.
Another curious thing is the plot to the east (i.e. to the right) of Disneyland Hotel. Clearly work is happening. I don't think it is HKDR work. Is it for the Kaleido Park?

D23 Expo did tease about the Avengers Headquarters which will be built in Phase 2. "This building, which will open in phase two, will become the future entrance to a brand-new E-Ticket attraction where you will step onboard a Quinjet and fly alongside the Avengers in an epic adventure to Wakanda and beyond!
You will team up alongside the Avengers in a battle to save our world against one of the most powerful villains they have ever faced. Imagineers are hard at work conceiving an all-new innovative ride system to put you in the middle of this action."
I can see Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Captain America(?) and the Wakandan army in the last piece of concept art. So it is a big battle. Apparently riders will "sky dive" into this battle.
I believe this is the Avengers E-ticket that is being designed BOTH for DCA and Hong Kong Disneyland. Maybe WDS Paris will get it, too. But clearly WDI are having difficulty with the designs and it is delayed. Still, HKDL is not expecting it to open in 2023 which is 4 years from now so WDI still has time.
Maybe the guests from Anaheim, Hong Kong and Paris will be called upon to join this Wakandan battle together? I think it would be REALLY AMAZING if the riders from the 3 parks would be able to interact with each other in the ride's battle. That would be hugely impressive if WDI can pull it off. It shouldn't be so hard with today's tech.

What's new other than the castle in 2020? Any new shows? Im planning to go by June of 2020.
Completely Transformed Castle & Hub means there are new shows in the area surrounding the castle. By looking at the concept arts I think there will be one new show during the day and one new show during the night.

Sounds like the cheaper Tower of Terror style Marvel attraction incoming.
The other attractions were already announced during the initial press conference e.g. new castle, Frozen area, Moana so they need to push forward with it no matter what. Lucky for us.
But they have always been very vague about the upcoming Marvel attraction and the other totally unknown 2021 reimagined attraction.
The protests combined with the less then expected Zhuhai-Macau bridge traffic are indeed enough reasons to scale back its investments. Can't really blame Disney, no one wants to lose money. But I do think the scaled back investments will put a big question mark on any plans for the 2nd gate.
The 2nd gate was not going to happen anytime "soon" but I would say it might be closer to "never" or at least not for the coming decade. If anyone still remembers the attendance requirement for HK Disney in order to have the right to purchase the 2nd gate land for development. Without enough unique new rides attendance would never reach the requirement unless HKdisney gives out free tickets and uses a "creative" accountant. It's a bit of a dilemma. With these protests experiences, the government would never back up HKdisney in any future expansions and people are even more then ever interested in the 2nd gate land for housing purposes.
The model of HKDL's Arendelle area. The snow mountain looks huge.
