The haunted house is being constructed next to Plaza Inn restaurant. Quite a massive building.

    • Expansion work officially begins at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Strangely Disney chose Friday the 13th to be the work commencement date...

      • I wonder whether they have thought about to combine Frozen land with the earlier concept Glacier Bay, there are several elements they could re-use like the lake or the snow mountains.
If the landscaping is done correctly it could probably blend in perfectly.
I really want the Frozen land to be impressive. The mini lands like Grizzly Gulch/ Toy story/ Mystic Manor are nice, but since they are quite small they don't really convince you of actually being there. I mean, all you need to do is to walk around the corner which is like 35 sec and then you see the entrance to the other land already.
I would also like them to extend/connect the Grizzly Gulch land with a Pirates/Indiana Jones land in that other corner.
Quite sure we will get a Pirates ride at some point, we are the only park without one and there are really no reasons why we would not get one, I think HKDL will be happy to sell us their Pirates merchandise stock from other parks. Pirates merchandise would certainly sell better then Cowboy merchandises.

              Thanks Asa,

HKDL is doing good work here by pre-informing their fans.
Although only Moana is truly new, it is still very much appreciated on how they communicate all years activities with us.

btw Moana's show is 18 minutes long according to this article.

              • The Moana show concept art has changed to this.

SHIELD ride will now open at the end of 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp will be the Marvel Superheroes that appear in the ride. They are taking their time to re-theme the ride and I think it will be quite an extensive re-themeing job.

Shield ride based on only Ant Man and Wasp is probably a good theme for a gun blasting experience where the visitors sit in pods shrunken to Ant level sizes to battle robot flees.
But Ant Man is probably ranked as one of the least popular Marvel hero out there. I guess HKDL couldn't get all the good stuff after having the most favorite superhero Iron Man.
I hope the new Ant Man movie in 2018 will increase its popularity.

Now that we know it is based on Ant man it does makes sense, since Disney has years of experience on how to make the audience feel shrunken (ref to the attraction "Honey I shrunk the kids show" and the recent reimagined Tokyo Disney Sea attraction "Finding Dory" and Paris Disney's "Ratatouille"ride.
If the ride is anything close to the Ratouille ride then I am completely sold.

                  • "Disney in the Stars" fireworks spectacular will have its finale on 2 January.

The construction work on Frozen land has commenced and the firework shooters will be moving. I guess that is why the fireworks show will stop. Hopefully they find another place to install the firework shooters again.

I think we can be quite sure that it wont be the same kind of fireworks spectacle anymore. The new castle show at night will be a video projection with music, fountain, fire and fume and maybe some simple fireworks here and there to emphasize the grand finale of the songs. It also seems logic that they cant continue fireworks at some point because of ecological and safety reasons with a fully expanded park. So I would recommend everyone to go and watch the final fireworks show before January.

                      • Hong Kong Disneyland Resort today revealed creative details about the upcoming castle transformation — an important part of the park’s ongoing multi-year expansion plan. The transformed castle will feature a seamless blend of styles inspired by different times and cultures, while paying tribute to Disney Princess stories. The transformed castle will also take the park’s entertainment to new heights with both a new daytime show and nighttime spectacular.

The design of the transformed castle will take inspiration from different times and cultures, as well as a variety of storybook influences and styles. The castle’s features will also be inspired by 13 much-loved Disney Princess stories based on Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Moana and Anna and Elsa. Coming from the far reaches of Asia, Europe, the Middle East and beyond, the Disney Princesses are a diverse group unified by their big dreams and courageous hearts.

From the new castle moat and hub area, guests will be able to spot princess finial decorations on some spires, such as Snow White’s apple, Cinderella’s coach and Belle’s rose, as well as princess-inspired designs and decorations throughout the castle.

To add even more magic and fantasy, the transformed castle area will include original artwork, unique sculptures and designs waiting for guests to find and enjoy. As part of the castle transformation, guests can visit the all-new Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, which is a magical salon where fairy-godmothers-in-training turn young guests into princesses with makeovers, hairstyling and special outfits. At the transformed castle, guests can also meet different Disney Princesses at different times.

There will also be a new outdoor stage where HKDL’s daytime show and nighttime spectacular will be held. Both of these new shows will feature awe-inspiring entertainment experiences, and be special moments for friends and loved ones to enjoy together.

                        • The castle looks like a mishmash of many various styles and I am not convinced that it is a good solution.

The worse thing is that after all the money, time and effort spent on it, the castle still will not have a walk -through attraction inside. It will still just be a facade.

                          • From the shortest castle to the strangest one...
But I could see the benefit of having an instantly recognizable castle design because it is certainly not going to be the tallest one out there for sure.
Anything too similar to other Disney park castles would provoke a comparison again, and I think they just want to give HK a "strangely" unique one.
HKDL didn't reveal the height yet, so its certainly not something to be proud of I think.
But I do like the yellow color they use for it, a bit different in a positive way.

HKDL preferred to have a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique to make money instead of having a walk-through attraction of any kind, but I guess this can be considered as an attraction for everyone with a daughter.

                            • I am disappointed about there is still nothing public (walkthrough, shops, etc) inside the castle, the boldface structure I circled black once make me hope there will be some magic coming.

In my opinion, the new rending of the castle looks better than the previous art before, I like it. It looks elegant, intriguing and it is kinda like a mystic manor...^^. I think it shares a deeper meaning like “it’s a small world” ride does, more than just a facade, though it would be better if it can render something inside the castle.

That is a lot of content for its parks, merchandises and movies distribution business.

Imagine some of these being used for rides in Disney Parks ( HKDL 2nd gate perhaps)!

                                  • Soarin ride HKDL?

                                    Hey guys,

Hope everyone is having a great 2018 so far.

Again some imaginations gone wild. ( I have posted this a while ago, but due to some error it never appeared, so I am sharing this again.)

A big hangar type building was spotted around July last year in the corner of HKDL adventure land, next to Grizzly Gulch.

                                    Picture from Mr B facebook
                                    https://www.facebook.com/mrbpage/pho...type=3&theater

This green structure is very tall and doesn't really blend into its surroundings.

Could this be our version of Soarin being prepared? (Of-course not, I know.....)
Soarin ride in Disney California is in fact a similar tall green hangar type of building.
Soarin in Shanghai was very well received by the locals and has even longer queues compared to new rides like Pirates.
Since HKDL will also target Chinese of the Greater Bay Area, this might actually be a cheap but logic expansion to HKDL.

Soarin Ride in Disney California Adventure was also located in themed land called "Grizzly" Peak with a similar Grizzly shaped rocky mountain like the HKDL one.
So the location of this green hangar next to our "Grizzly" Gulch could also be suspicious coincidence.

Again this is probably just a too tall ugly green storage facility at the end.
But the Google pic shows that there are some tree-landscaping around it and why would they do that for a building that will only be accessed by cast members at the end?
See below Google map pic ( btw this green building doesn't exist till after Iron Man was opened )

Will the US Grizzly Peak be the theme for this future land maybe?

"Star Wars has no legacy here," says Wu. "It will require something fresh to win back the Chinese audience."

It seems Star Wars is not popular with Chinese audiences who knows very little about the original films. That means Shanghai Disneyland will probably not get the Star Wars Land, making HKDL second gate a more likely place for it to be build.
