  • 30 Years of Pixar Exhibition

30 years of Pixar Exhibition is being held at the Cultural Museum in Shatin, Hong Kong.

The exhibition will run from 18 November to 5 March 2018, from 10 am to 6 pm on weekedays, 7pm on weekends and public holidays.

Tickets $20 for adults. All photos from HKMSG.

Sometimes I wish Disney would build a museum at the HKDR instead of doing it every once in a while at the Cultural Museum. It would certainly attract more people to the resort.

I think the purpose of having a museum outside of Disney is exactly to get more people interested to visit the park itself? No?

They are re-imagining the pier of Disney California Park into a Pixar Pier :

We use to have a nice little Art of Animation building in HKDL with the Toy Story Animation Carousel (which went to Shanghai Disney) which is now turned into a Guest Relations space.
I use to get in there once in a while, but after they moved it, there is just nothing significant to explore there. A little Pixar History museum would definitely make it much nicer.
Maybe that's where all these stuff goes after they finish the expedition in March 2018?

There is nothing to do at the resort apart from hotel stay or park visits right now. Both are rather expensive for many locals. $500+ per entry ticket is not cheap. Two people going together and it is already $1000+. The lowest priced annual pass is around $1,800. It is not cheap and most local families can find a lot of other things better to spend the money on. Then you have to add food and beverage and transport. I think the park is genuinely pricing itself out of the local market.

If you want to attract more people to visit the park, then somehow the resort needs to do more promotions. If you want people to visit the resort, then maybe they have to build something with a cheaper entry fee like a small Pixar museum.

Disney content is not the number 1 entertainment option for most local people. Local people mostly watch TVB's Cantonese content. Yes, TVB content is second or even third rate stuff, but it is catered towards local people. Disney has not done a single film or TV series based in Hong Kong. HK people do not feel as strongly about Disney as most Americans do. HKDL needs to find a way to lower its entry threshold for local people. The current entry ticket pricing structure is not working. If not enough people enter the park, then how can it make money from food, beverage and merchandising?

        Agree on everything.

I think they are doing some stuff already. There are more frequent promotion now and seasonal merchandise discounts. Also the 50 000 tickets giveaway is a step in the right direction.
I recently got an email from HKDL which is trying to woo me to visit the park, the email mentions that I was not as frequent visiting the park as I use to do, so it was offering me some kind of limited pin if I visit the park again before a certain date.
It seems they are really pulling up the excel tables behind the scene to increase footsteps through these auto-generated emails.
They should offer free entrance to HK citizens on their bday just like Ocean Park. Certainly a good marketing which would generate more income on long term.

Senior citizens should get free entries as well. They are not going for any rides except maybe It's a small world or Winnie the Pooh. They are mostly coming with their children or grandchildren. They will most likely sit in a restaurant and eat or drink and will actually contribute to the resort's coffers.

A good proposal would be to re-build the baseball field in the second phase land. There was a baseball field between the two hotels, but obviously with the development of Disney Explorers Lodge the field was demolished. Since the second phase land will not see work for at least 5 years, it will be good to re-build the field there, not just for baseball but also for cricket or other suitable sports, complete with a temporary grandstand. That will generate more traffic to the resort and they will need food and beverage which can be served by the resorts' catering division.
