  • protesters to blame?

so i been finding sources from disney and more, before coronavirus started, because of the continuous protests in Hong Kong, the current expansions will be delayed. so would we be seeing them be finished next year? my plans to go for first time will be delayed way further ahead if this is true. To like 2026

Next year 2021 was not the original planned completion year of all expansions. 2021 was going to be the year when they might open the Frozen land.
In fact 2023 was suppose to be the original completion year for ALL expansions (Marvel E-ticket included) but with the current situation (protests + virus), 1 year delay is probably the bear minimum. So if you want to experience all planned expansions, it would probably be 2024 the earliest.
But the castle renovations are still ongoing, pretty sure they will complete that and open it within this year although maybe delayed from March to later this winter (just my healthy guess) if the virus situation can be controlled soon.

WDC CFO Christine McCarthy said HKDL will lose US$40m if the park is to close for two months. HK01 reports that HKDL already lost US$104m in the first quarter, so the resort will lose a total of US$145m, which is approx HK$1.14billion.

There is also talk from certain politicians that one or two of the HKDR hotels, or the second phase site, could be used as isolation camps for the Wuhan coronavirus affected people's close contacts (NOT the patients themselves). HK govt will need to get WDC approval though. I think WDC might agree as long as HK govt pay for all the associated costs and expenses. It won't be cheap but HK govt is loaded. WDC will be happy to get some income for HKDL's facilities at this difficult time.

Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said the company expects an impact of $135 million on second-quarter operating income from the Shanghai park and about $40 million from the closure of the Hong Kong park.

The company had already disclosed that its Hong Kong park had been underperforming due to protests in the region. Between coronavirus and the unrest in Hong Kong, operating income at the park is expected to decline by $145 million in the second quarter.

Last quarter, operating income in the Hong Kong park declined by $55 million.

I hear that too. Its in the SCMP. Since there is low usage of the hotels and that the park is closed. Why not make the hotels as quarantine camps? Since Fanling and Mei Foo locations are been rejected because they are too close to the public housing estates.
Tourism lawmaker calls on government to look at using resort’s remote accommodation for isolation.
