  • What should be built at Shanghai Disneyland?

I was just wondering, what do you want to see built at Shanghai Disneyland? We know there is going to be a Magic Kingdom style park, but what other parks, if any, would you want to see built? Any hotels? What rides should go in the Magic Kingdom park? Fantasmic? World of Color? What castle should be used? etc.

I think most of the parks are the same, which isn't a bad thing, but I think Shanghai could have stuff totally unique and different. No exact ideas from me, though! :P

How about a tram tour that shows the factory where workers assemble the Mickey Mouse plush?

And by Beast's Castle, do you mean like the Castle in the Park, like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella Castle?

          Because yes.

            Yeah that's what I meant.
I like Beast's Castle, but I think Rapunzel's could be cool.

If this is Shanghai now, what are they going to do for a Tomorrowland?

                      1. Soarin' Over China (Kind of pathetic that I'd go to China to go on a ride about China)
                      2. The People Mover (from their homes)
                      3. Chairman Mickey Mao's Club
                      4. Honey, I Shrunk Their Freedom of Speech!
                      5. America the Beautiful (let's work in some propaganda)
                      6. It's a Small World, which is unfortunate when you've got well over a billion people.
                      7. The Cultural Revolution (live show)
                      8. The Haunted Mansion (also with a Cultural Revolution theme)
                      9. Some sort of Chinese acrobat show.
                      10. A Western town that is Mongolian themed. Seriously. Celebrate China!

This could be a wonderful project that brings people together. What a great tribute to Walt Disney that he will be thrilling kids across the world so long after his life.

Re: What should be built at Shanghai Disneyland?

The park should be based on the Magic Kingdom parks (hub and spoke layout). That's "Disneyland".

As for the castle, I'd very much like them to do something different. There is already a Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty castle in Asia, time for something new.

What that would be ... who the heck knows. Haven't seen enough from Rapunzel to know if that would work or be recognizable.

Beast's castle would be pretty awesome I think.

As for rides, I think any Magic Kindgom park should open with the standards (Pirates, Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and of course the "Wilderness" area). I'd also like to see some unique attractions as well.

Re: What should be built at Shanghai Disneyland?

The more unique this park is the better. Let Hong Kong Disneyland be the traditional style park. I'd LOVE to see Shanghai Disneyland be more in the style of Tokyo Disney Sea in scale and layout.

Lots more water, more isolated lands, a major lake or lagoon that the lands wrap around (like World Showcase at EPCOT) for day and night time shows. While they should get a few classic Disney rides, I really hope they get some unique twists and some entirely new concepts.

The more different Shanghai is, the less it will compete with and hurt Hong Kong (which is a much smaller park and currently under stress from a lack of attendance).

I also hope that Imagineering will take this opportunity to develop some of their long standing ideas and concepts which they've never had the approval or budget to explore. This could ultimately be a great way to get some new ideas into the US parks once they have been initially funded by the Shanghai project.

Re: What should be built at Shanghai Disneyland?

IMO, the hub & spoke design, while the most efficient and prove style, would make this park too similar to TDL & HKDL. But the IOA/World Showcase design (loop around a lake) can make getting from point a to b too tiresome.

The answer is a DisneySea-like design which is essentially a "hub & spoke" and "lake loop" hybrid:

The project is expected to bring huge benefits to both sides. But experts said the Disneyland in China should absorb Chinese culture to win lasting favor of local visitors.
"It's like the diference between a tea house and a coffee bar. Chinese people may visit the Disneyland once or twice for new experiences, but I don't think they will keep visiting a pure American theme park that has nothing to do with their own culture, " said Sun Zhe, director of the Beijing-based Sino-US Relations Research Center of Tsinghua University.
"If Disney wants to keep booming business in China, innovation and localization is a must," Sun said.
Based on these comments, I wonder if we'll finally see Mulan getting her own attraction or even themed area. Creating a lasting appeal for the mainland guests might be difficult considering that many of them have not grown up with the Disney franchises the same way we have. I think getting them to embrace the product will be the true challenge.
