  • How much will we see during construction?

I was thinking, the net has changed quite a lot since the last Disney park was constructed. Hong Kong started when net fandom was still in its infancy, so there wasn't much need to show what was going on.

Now we have things like the Disney Parks blog giving an "insider" view on works in progress, so will we see more of what's happening in Shanghai or will they keep it as close to their chest as possible (to stop copycat construction)?

What's with every other post being "copycat construction" concerns?

Nobody's going to be able to build a fake Disneyland in Shanghai before Disney builds their park.

Wouldn't the Chinese government be equally embarrassed? They're 57% owners of this resort.

            Nara Dreamland

Do you mean Nara Dreamland? Because that was built by private enterprise in Japan.

I don't think Communist Party officals will allow construction of this sort of thing in China.

It took Disney decades to get approval to build an official park and why would the Chinese want to allow something that would be bad for their 57% investment in this $4billion project?

Somebody will eventually rent a helicopter and take some aerial pictures once or twice a month, I'm sure of that.

Or Disney will actually make some sort of a construction journal and document its progress on its own.

Well there is something similar called Beijing Shijingshan Amusement Park. Infamous from this 2007 Japanese TV report...

That's the good thing about it. Having an interest in the project should mean they will try and prevent any imitations.

Well that's just what I was wondering. Will they keep us updated or keep it quiet? Not that there will be much to see for a few months.

Is that place still open? Couldn't Disney have had it shut down as part of their Shanghai Disney agreements with the Chinese Gvt if they were really concerned about knockoff parks?

Nara Dreamland has to be the most bizarre themepark ever. But I was thinking of this park:

Our Shanghai resort will be a world-class family vacation destination that combines classic Disney characters and storytelling with the uniqueness and beauty of China. Working with our Chinese partners, the resort will be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese… a place where friends and family can enjoy local cultural celebrations and customs together.
LOL, who released this statement, Disney, or the knock off park? Quick! To the buzzer.

Does Kevin Yee cover China, cause I could see him or Al doing that.
