  • Tron Themed Coaster Rumored For Possible Shanghai Disneyland Green Lighting

The potential Tron theme park attraction universe seems to be constantly expanding. Now it appears that it's being Shanghaied to China! A Tron coaster is said to be waiting in the wings for approval. Let's hope this becomes a cyberspace reality.

Edit: Previously forgot to list my sources for this rumor as Screamscape. Sideshow Collectables, and WDW Magic.

You can say that again my friend! Shanghai Disneyland's management can already see the current popularity of the Tron franchise market...including the extended stay of ElecTRONica at Disneyland California. If the Disneyland Resort builds the Tron ride in Tomorrowland (rumored to be in WDI's plans), then it will pretty much be a guaranteed case of "monkey see, monkey do" at Shanghai. They would probably want to copy our Star Tours 3-D and whatever PeopleMover type of attraction that DLR gets going.

As different and innovative as Shanghai Disneyland looks to be, one has to wonder if it will choose to have a Tron themed indoor coaster in place of Space Mountain.

Design and build some new attractions for Shanghai first, let them open there first, let the costs associated with imagineering them be allocated to Shanghai first.

Then, dust off the blueprints and bring clones back here to the other parks after an initial period of exclusivity at Shanghai.

That's a more effective business model for the WD Company.

You have a wise business sense, CA. Shanghai needs to emphasize exclusive unique attractions on it's opening day if it is to start out popular and profitable, as opposed to the sluggish fiscally hurting fate Hong Kong disneyland did when it began.
