  • NO Railroad?

I never noticed this and now that I have I am just wondering why TDL doesn't have a railroad that circles the park?

    Re: NO Railroad?

I read the reason for this somewhere a while back...but don't remember where.

The railroad was made a one-stop attraction in the park due to a Japanese law that oversees railways. If the TDL Railroad was to have more than one stop, then the agency that oversees railways in Japan (or is it a Tokyo agency?..don't remember..) would have jurisdiction over the operation of TDL's Railroad.

They do have a Westernland railroad though, that goes just around the one land.

Thanks for the info. They still could have the railroad, even if it had one stop. The train is one of the park's signature attractions and it feels weird that TDL doesn't have it.

I think the length of the track was also an issue, but I could be wrong...if they added more track, it would fall under the jurisdiction of the government. Does anyone know if this is true?

I'm not 100% sure either, but I've also heard this and believe it is correct.

Basically, the law supposedly states that anything with more than one
station of a certain length constitues a "railway" and that falls under their transportation ministry rules. Also in that case, they had to charge a fare!

So that ruled out the railway, and the Imagineers decided on the current Western
            River Railroad with one station.

Anyway, that's what I've been able to gather.

Not quite. The Western railroad stationis located in Adventureland above the Jungle Cruise's dock. The railroad circles all around the outer perimeter of the Jungle Cruise and then continues on around the perimeter of Westernland (not Frontierland in TDL), then cuts thru Critter Country in front of Splash Mountain, turning around and coming back into Frontierland circling the Big Thunder Mt, and then entering the tunnel for Primeval World, before returning back to it's Adventureland station.

So the fact is...the Western Railroad does travel around 3 separate lands.

I did the best I could for someone who's never been there and was relying solely on memory of what I've read. I was also waiting for you to come and clarify for everyone, as our resident TDL expert. Thanks!

I am not an expert on many Disney things, but I do know all the parks' layouts like the back of my hand.

I don't know about the length issue but any more than one station would fall under transportation laws like said above.
So the monorail does, which is part of the reason they incorperated a lot of the features from the Japanese railway system.

I definitely agree on this. It is the law in Japan that if there are more than one stop for the train the railway agency would have to take over the operations.

Hmmm... that would make sense before the privatization of JR (which I think
TDL was built), but is that still the case?
