[Question] Shellie May

Does anyone know, is Shellie May a character that will stay or is she just part of Sweet Duffy?

It looks like she went over well, so Im not sure why OLC wouldn't keep her around. But then again Im not sure. I can see them making her permit and selling costumes for her, since she was a big hit and with the new show, why not. So I was wondering if anyone had heard or knew what the plans are for Shellie May?

Shellie May, a female friend of Duffy's, is now a permanent park character and expect a lot more merchandise coming up.

Shellie May is Duffys new Friend. Im not sure how the storyline will play out, but SM is like Minnie and Daisy to Mickey and Donald. Im not sure if SM is considered Duffys girlfriend or not but she is a female friend of his.

She came out in February during Sweet Duffy. I haven't seen her in person, but Im told that she is a light pink color, I think she is the same size as Duffy, cute blue eyes with eye lashes. From what I can tell she has two costumes. One is a Sweets Duffy Costume, its white and pink I think(I have only seen photos) and then she has a tan skirt with a bow for her hair. And I think that is it for now.

Her storyline is Minnie made her as a friend/pal for Duffy. Thats all I know for now.

By the way Janell, will you be visiting Disneyland on Mar 14 or 15? I'll be visiting my parents that week and plan to visit the Park on one of those days. Would be nice to say hi!

I got to meet with the Dir. of Resort Operations at TDR, and he said that the debut of Shellie May broke worldwide Disney sales records. So I'm thinking she's here to stay!

I'll have to wait a while to get my Shellie May- I hope they are still selling the popcorn buckets in October & November- unless they change them out for Halloween or Christmas themed Duffy buckets.

I'm now beginning to think that it was a pretty good move to introduce her- but with all the earlier arguments about taking away from Duffy- I just hope they don't go too over the top and overexpose her too much since I still feel that Duffy was the original- so I hope she doen't overshadow him in the long run.

I agree with you, Jedimaster, at least from a marketing standpoint. I might not have liked her at first, but I can't argue with the fact that her debut broke sales records. She's not going anywhere...

I was surprised that Shellie wasn't incorporated into the new Duffy Show yet- unless they may have that planned out for next year.

I'm also wondering if she will receive the same treatment as Duffy does in the fall and have a smiling version once a year as well- so they can have a matching pair- but I'm sure that one is already in the works as well.

The last thought of the day is why there isn't a walk around version of Shellie May- If she's caught on that much already- why wait-

But I'm sure the park is dealing with enough of crowds already as it is with the introduction of a new popcorn bucket, a new show and even more new product with a new character to boot.

If the Resort had known how popular Shellie May was going to be, it probarely would of done more. But its still early days yet, and the Resort needs to play it safe, debuting a Duffy show in my opinion where he talks was a big risk, I still don't really know what the Duffy Fans think to him talking, or his new look. If I was the Resort I would hold off on the Duffy stuff for a while to allow people to adjust and get use to all the new changes. The introduction of Shellie May is a big suscess and its going to be interesting to see if one day her popularity out performs Duffy's.

Yeah, I also wouldn't be surprised if they are waiting for a key event to introduce a Shellie walkaround, or into the show. You don't want to give away the farm just yet! Let fans get used to her, and then, like new attractions, you can use it as a marketing tool to get people inside again.

The OLC should also look into issues that came up during the release of Shellie May, the lines coming out of Aunt Peg's was insane, and it should consider stocking more shops with the debut merchandise in future, especially once new costumes start to get release.

The walk around Character is a neat idea and I'm positive will probarely debut in the not to distant future, but again crowd concerns are an issue. The Duffy walk around Character already has big lines, Aunt Peg's is usually packed and you also have the new Show, this makes the Cape Cod area very gridlocked already, and I'm not sure the addition of a Shellie May walk around Character, would do it any favours.

While the Resort knows exactly what its doing in terms of merchandise and making money, it really needs to address crowd flow issues, in the future.
