I'm not surprised by the crowds. And anyone could see this was going to be a issue with Star Tours re opening. Monsters Inc, Star Tours, One Man's Dream II and Space Mountain are all located in that small space. It was always going to be a concern.

On opening day Star Tours had long moments for the line and short moments, it's really good at eating up crowds and the cast with practice was able to handle the crowd well. Yes, in the morning it was like in the deep picture but around two hours later the line was just barely outside the door and then would get longer again an hour later when people realized the wait was short but nothing like in the morning.

I can't believe the crowd! Holy crap!

I'm betting they're going to move the custom cell-phone-charm seasonal thing out of Cosmic Encounters now because of the crowd.

The FP machines are outside the lottery building and next to the FP's for Space mountain. Also LizCatMom I noticed in another post you mentioned giving your husband your tickets to get FP's in the morning, just remember you have to enter the park with him to activate the tickets.

The lottery building is used to enter a random drawing to be able to see certain shows. Right now you can enter to see OMDII but during the summer for example you can enter to see the castle shows. You just scan your groups tickets together and the machine will print out your tickets if you win.
Thanks for the head's up about that! I can only imagine how annoyed my hubby would have been if he had waited all that time only to discover he would've only been able to get a single FP. Looks like we'll all be in line early, then.

Ah, it has been so long since we've seen OMDII and we caught the first show that I don't even remember there being a lottery for it. I was hoping it was some sort of lottery for something NEW! But, I had tried the lottery for Big Band Beat at DisneySea on our most recent trip back in December and was bummed not to have gotten seats. I mean, we've seen it before, but always from the balcony.

I will keep watching the wait/standby times for Star Tours just to see if it will be better to get FPs elsewhere (Pooh's Hunny Hunt!)

Yes that's how the Star Tours building has always looked. And from what I've seen, it is EXACTLY the same ride update the US parks got.

Did the showbuilding for Star Tours in TDL always look like that? Cuz this is the first time I've seen it like that and it looks amazing!

All I can say is... thank goodness the line in the stateside theme parks is only 40 minutes.

So, how is it? I know it's the same attraction, but Tokyo has been known to provide better quality.

Do they have something else planned for the overflow queue?

Because Tomorrowland looks a little bit crowded now.

I rode it a few times already. The ride is the same, but the pre show area is unique to TDL-it's a half hour loop that you really can't see the whole thing just waiting in line-unless you stand off to the side and watch it like I did.

TDR always does better. I only wish they did more to the outside to be more Star Wars themed, but you'll still get no complaints from me.

    The hitchhiking droids are great.

I saw some of the merchandise coming when the ride opens, they have a page in the latest issue of Disney Fan, but I'll be gone by then- oh well, I'll just have to come back in November for my usual trip.

I love what they've done with the first hangar bay of the queue, how the lighting and music seems to sync up with what's currently being displayed on the "Billboard".

Can't wait to experience it for myself.

If you are interested in watching the ceremony I wouldn't go get FPs and ride attractions. I'd go straight to where the ceremony is going to be a wait.

WDWFigment: I would give you this advice. Get on line outside the gates TWO hours before park opening if you are going on opening day. When the gates go up and you get in, RUN RUN RUN to Star Tours (down the main street of World Bazaar and take a hard right at West Center Street, which is on the RIGHT in Tokyo). Go right to the attraction and ride it (do not get a FastPass). When you come out, go directly to Monster's Inc. and get a FastPass. Then walk briskly to Pooh's Hunny Hunt and ride it. That should start your day off right and it's the only way (assuming the locals behave the same way they do for Toy Story Mania) that you'll see Star Tours.

Or you can skip Star Tours and take advantage of the way it's going to suck the opening hour crowds away from Monster's Inc. and Pooh's Hunny Hunt, and just about every other ride in the park.

We'll be there for the "grand opening" of Star Tours 2.0.

Having seen the attraction at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, we were planning on skipping it since there are unique things to do (and we assume Star Tours will be incredibly popular over there), but we have 5 days in the parks and those photos of the queue have me convinced that we should do it...

Anyone know if there will be a ribbon cutting or anything of the sort on May 7th?

My conflicting views on the Hitchhiking Ghosts Easter egg:

Star Wars Canon Nerd: "Since when did RX-24 have thumbs?"

Disney Fan: "Haunted Mansion reference, EPIC."

Looks like Tokyo will be a great addition to the Star Tours spaceports.

Merchandise preview from DFan. Haha, the Donald R2-D2 plushie is so cute! Wasn't planning on getting anything but that plush has sold me. The plugy is pretty neat too.
