Re: Details on New Attractions Released

Brian is right. There is no SDMT in the artwork. The Village area taking over TL Terrace isn't the mine train.

They're going to build it, even if you can't see it now.

What ever happened to the "sure thing" addition of Soarin' to TDS? I would've thought with this large an expansion announcement that IF Soarin' was in the works it would've been included.

Is Haunted Mansion staying? I'm guessing yes, it's cutoff from the concept art.

Yes. I don't expect any changes to it except for a makeover of the area surrounding it.

I spoke with a Tokyo Disney Resort executive at the first Disneyana Fan Festival and he was shocked I knew about the addition of Soarin and where it was going to be located. I firmly believe that this will still happen. As I said in another thread, $400 million will buy both Soarin and the E-Ticket for the new port.

Soarin' was definitely on the table at one point around 2006-2007, but it seems to be on the backburner for now according to insiders. WDW1974 made it clear that the $400 million was for the Frozen E-ticket alone, and the high cost is due to "the nature of the show building"- no doubt the large mountain with the ice castle on top. I'm hopeful we will see Soarin' at TDS one day, but I don't think it will be part of this round of expansions. Maybe some time after 2018 when the new port is completed.

Good - I'd MUCH rather see a brand new attraction/area, even if they based on the highly over-rated "Frozen", rather than just another version of something we can see in the States.

One thing we do know is that the OLC will bank roll something SPECTACULAR for its first new port at TDS!

Scandinavian Fjord/Port is a very fitting name, because that is what the expansion really is looking like. To be exact... it will be built to look like an old port in Norway. There are not many glaciers at those.

If OLC does deliver "Frozen" it will be thematically superior to what WDW is doing. The OLC understands quality themeing. Just look at Disney Sea and compare it to EPCOT.

Is TDL is having a BATB dark ride? A restaurant? Or it still unknown?

The restaurant was confirmed to not be part of the plans. It is unknown exactly what type of major attraction is being added for BatB. Best guess would be a dark ride, as there is ample space for one in that location.

You know, normally I'd be excited about the addition of a new dark ride but, after visiting TDL several times over a three week period, I'd say there's a very good case to be made for a brand new high end restaurant.

We were spoiled for choice at TDS and made good use of the wide variety of eateries there but, at TDL, after eating at the Blue Bayou, Grandma Sarah's, Crystal Palace and Queen of Hearts, we were pining for somewhere else that offered the same level of service and ambiance that Magellan's or even the Columbia Dining Room offered.

I understand the parks are fundamentally different and TDS was actually designed to offer completely different dining options, but I just feel this may the perfect opportunity for the OLC to provide a high end alternative restaurant experience for TDL guests who desire it. Likewise, TDL actually NEEDS more sit down restaurants.

It was confirmed by two inside sources that a high-end, table service restaurant would be going where Tomorrowland Terrace currently is. It will likely have views of the parade route like the concept art in the earlier press release.

It wasn't clear to me when construction might start, but I assume that I might be affected for my visit in December? I'm still trying to find an airfare that isn't too insane so I can visit HKDL on my way back home, even if it will be a disappointment after being at TDR : (

You probably will not be affected too badly. Construction at TDS will not be visible or at least interfere with anything. As for TDL, maybe the Grand Circuit Raceway is closed, along with maybe some other attractions that will be altered or destroyed in the renovation. Not much.

As for airfare, look on expedia. Just add the option for a very long layover at HK. The airport is very close to HKDL and one could easily fly in early, see the park, and take a late afternoon flight out.

When I was at TDS a few weeks ago(Thur. 9/4) I saw a female Japanese manager escorting two Caucasian men around. I saw them stand at the portion overlooking the empty area behind Stormrider and adjacent to Indy. One of the men was an older looking man and the other was Asian. The Asian man was wearing a "Walt Disney Imagineering" jacket.

It was CLEARLY obvious what they were doing!

It felt like looking into a little moment in history.

Oh, I think I know who that "Asian" man is!! (He's my friend's brother who worked on TDS and was working at Shanghai DL; he's Japanese-American.)

Thanks Imagineer45 - I figure I can work around any construction, but parts may just impact the atmosphere.

I've played with Expedia as well as that Matrix.itasoftware by Google website, but I was thinking of staying two nights in HK to give myself full day just in case I want one since I haven't been there before. I'll have to try the option of not staying that long and see if that helps. Thanks!
