  • OLC Groundbreaks the Cique theater.

Yesterday, April 18, OLC broke ground for the new Cirque du Soleil theater to open in 2008.

    Facility Information
    • Location: Next to Disney Ambassador Hotel
    • Capacity: Approximately 2,000 seats
    • Area: Building Space approximately 5,400 sq.m
      Floor Space approximately 14,000 sq.m
JoeinJpn's site had more of the release, it will sit off Ikspari infront of the Ambassador Hotel.

Go to Joe's site to look at the concept art for the building. All I can say is...

...what the hell are they going for? So UGLY! What a horrible nasty building to have sitting out infront of a Disney ArtDeco Hotel.

:yuck: This just goes to show OLC isn't perfect after all.

I agree!!! I do NOT like the location of this theater in the very least!!! It will destroy the look of the Ambassador Hotel area!!!
Besides, I feel Cique is vastly overrated and does not belong in a Disney park, reason why I have never attended LaNouba at WDW. They are so Vegas-camp as far as I know...
Here are the first pictures from the construction area:

Hahaha count on TDLFan to have photos already. Thanks.

It seems way to close to that hotel...hope the Ambassador didn't have any nice park view rooms before this...because this sucker will ruin them.

NO room in the front side of the Ambassador have views of TDL while some may have a partial view of the Miracosta and the Volcano off to the right side... I do not think the Cirque Theater will block any partial views some of these rooms may have of TDS. Besides... those rooms actually have some of the worst views of the hotel... facing the Maihama public pool complex, some ugly port and warehouses and the TDS parking garage structure... not to mention the ugly JR Train track on the left. This Cirque building... if done right, with some nice landscapping and park like gardens can only enhance the view from those rooms. My concern is how this building will destroy the unobstructed view of the Ambassador's art deco elegance from afar... Hopefully, it will be placed at the very end of the parking lot, close to that MyStays Hotel across from TDR's property.... meaning as far from the Ambassador as possible.

They're clearly trying to go for something that evokes Frank Gehry. I'd say to wait until it's finished before you complain about it, but what's the use... And that Vegas comment stings. Not only because I like Cirque, but I consider ourt top-tier entertainment to be far classier than anything I find at a Disney park. It's like comparing a Lexus to Mini-Cooper wearing mouse ears.

I have no idea why in the world Cirque EVER signed up to do Zumanity, especially with Guy Whatshisname being as persnickety as he is, but KA will impress even a curmudgeon like you and we'll see about the new Beatles show in a few months.

Sorry if you were offended, I was using it as a joke because you have (IMO anyway) such very high standards. Which was why the after it.

I was being about as genuine with that comment as you are when you rib Mike as a Disney publicist. =b

That was a Disney Apologist. Now, if you want to call me an OLC/TDR apologist, I am OK with that. But "curmudgeon" makes me sound like an old ******* who hasn't got a clue and b*** and moans all the time. As you know... I only b**** and moan about declining standards, and that would be only 68.7% of the time.

Well hell than it's a failure no matter what it looks like. I can be kicked out of my program for saying this but Ghery's work sucks, and if that is what OLC is shooting for then OLC needs a kick in the head. To be rude about it.

Don't get me started on Gehry, and Don't get me started on Graves..

They should have brought in Robert A.M. Stern, the Architect who designed the Amabassador, Yacht and Beach Club, the Boardwalk and the New Animation Building, and considering it's location, gone for a restrained Deco Theatre look.

Stern did the Ambassador too? Really? I thought by that time DisneyDesigns had gotten out of the Eisner-Architecture-Funk and gone back to doing the main hotel work itself...

Wait, isn't the Gehry designed Disney Village being redone to tone done the Gehryness?

I'm not a fan of the concept art of that building either. It just doesn't feel Disney.

I dont have a promblem with outside Architects designing Disney hotels - It's a practice that dates back to at least 1971. The only Deluxe hotels that havent had any outside guidasnce are the two HKDL hotels and possibly the 2 Disneyland Hotels (Paris/Tokyo).
