  • A different, new, layout?

So I'm flipping through Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Magic Look at Making the Magic Real and on pages 38 and 39 there is a concept painting by Herb Ryman. World Bazaar is on the left and Cinderella Castle is on the right. However, in the background looms Space Mountain. Does anybody know if at one time WDI seriously considered placing Tomorrowland on the opposite side of the park of where it traditionally sits? And if so, does anybody have a source for more pictures?

    PS: 1k post. Yay me!

They were originally going to put Adventureland where Tomorrowland is now. However, there were more trees on the other side of the park, so they decided to build Adventureland where it is today.

And congrats on becoming MiceChat's newest Loser!!!! 1000 posts is a sign of commitment.

Really? I always figured that painting was made just to show the open spaces...not be realistic...Dusty do you know why they wanted to switch Adventureland and Tomorrowland? Was Westernland to move too?

But isn't TDL built on reclaimed land? Or is that only the resort expansion?

It (most of it at least) was reclaimed.

Sorry guys, I didn't notice that this was in the Tokyo forum. My quote was about Disneyland, CA. Sorry about that. Hopefully one of our TDL fans will know the answer to this questions

I have that book and I always thought how the park was laid out and it was just the view from Adventureland across the Plaza with Tomorrowland straight ahead, the Castle on the right and World Bazaar on the left.
