  • 3rd park

In Al's newest update he mentioned how the new DL resort president was working on the first stages of a third park for Tokyo. Is there anymore info about this?

      Re: 3rd park

During Grier's tenure there, he got OLC to approve the construction of a lavish new Disneyland Hotel located near the parks main entrance, fast tracked several new E Ticket attractions currently in the pipeline for both DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland, and began initial planning on a third massive theme park to be built on landfill adjacent to the DisneySea park.

And here is what it said in the article for anyone who didn't read it. I wish Al could have given at least a little more info.

I read the article...and it has been on the planning board for more than just the two years Grier was there. Not anytime soon...but when they bought the industrial land a few years ago part of it was to allow them to move out the backstage area around their parks to allow that to become onstage areas for transitions between hotels and parks. Basically to clean up the current TDR to allow for a nice place when they get around to a 3rd park.
The way TDS is flatlining I doubt a 3rd park is on the horizon. TDS caused OLC thier first ever loss in 2001. I don't think till it is paid off they will be in a hurry to build another park.

OLC incurred a loss?? IT's common knowledge the crowds at that park have been off expectations, but a LOSS??? Please enlight me with fact and links to such information.

If I remember correctly, TDS has gotten 10-12 million guests per year. Hardly a loss compared to the abysmal numbers for DCA* or WDS.

Give me some time...but the first quarter TDS opened they incured a loss. First and only one ever.
Again though, give me some time.

Yes, but that number didn't keep growing like it wass supposed to. It flatlined. That is how it is off expectations.

                    http://www.olc.co.jp/en/news_parts/20040510e1.pdf

As you can see, Net Income (in millions of Yen) in 2004 was down 2.1% from 2003. Due to both TDS and the drop in attendance after the 20th anniversary.

I believe this was thier only one.

Thanks for providing that info. Lucky for us, that little loss didn't sink OLC quality the way Eisner sunk the entire theme park division after the Euro Disney fiasco.

                        They have to.

I'd be very interested to see what would happen to attendance if Park Hopping was allowed on all day tickets.

I think any third park plans are long term. It just seems too soon. It would be nice to see what the OLC would commission, as it would probably not be another Disney Studios Park.

I read somewhere on the internet that the third gate would be a water park and my mind almost instantly thought of the incredible Lava Lagoon Concept that was originally developed for the Euro Disney Resort. But there's nothing official, it's my own wild wishful thinking.

                            Who has to what?

That would be interesting. I bet you'd find TDS could get more visitors, but probably for not as long each day.

The OLC has to maintain certain quality standards which constitute the "Disney way". So while the OLC does show a willing to spend money, they are still required by Disney to do so.
