  • Scared of rides... Help!

As some of you know, I'm a HUGE chicken, which is unfortunate for this trip because it seems like so many of TDL's superior rides are the fast and scary ones, or simulators which I typically avoid. I'm trying to get over this by starting on the tamest rides then stepping it up, like I did at WDW.

So far, I've arranged things like so.

Rides I absolutely will not ride:
    Space Mountain (closed)
    Raging Spirits (goes upside-down)

Scary rides I'm willing to try:
Indy (done the DL one once before)
Star Tours (DL once, bad experience)
    JTTCOTE
Splash Mountain (done the DL one twice before)
    StormRider
    Tower of Terror

The list above is what I'm guessing is the order of least scary/fast to most scary/fast rides are, with Star Tours as the tamest and ToT as the, uh, most hardcore. Is this about accurate? Are the motions in Journey worse than StormRider? Are the drops in Journey worse than Splash? Worse than TOT, even? Does OLC keep their Star Tours film in as pristine condition as everything else?

Inquiring minds need to know, since I'm trying to draw battle plans for the parks. Thanks

You are willing to try TOT but not Space Mountain, which is exactly as the classic one from DL? I honestly don't get you. And because I do not know how willing you'd be able to go due to your silly phobias, I can't offer you a plan of battle other than this: GET OVER YOUR SELF-INFLICTED FEARS and ride *everything*!!!!

I can't ride it because it's closed, TDLFAN. I'll be there in November. I spelled it out right next to the name.

I know we all have senior moments sometimes, but even I have a better attention span than that.

Oh you meant... "Closed", as opposed to "enclosed". Sorry, my bad. But that does not change my opinion on this.. You need to get over your phobias. This is not 6-Freaking Flags and their monster coasters. It would be a pity to go all the way to Japan and shortchange your experiencing everything TDR has to offer just because you self-imposed chicken status.

Well, I'm certain on Journey and Splash and Indy, but it's really TOT that I'm freaked out about. Journey I was all set for until you told me that it's XTREME TO THE MAXXXXX.

TOT, well, I think I'm going to have to buy a set of Depends before I go.

EDIT: On the other hand, if it's really not so bad, why don't you come over here and hold my hand? :P (Kidding)

Tower of Terror is really nothing to be afraid of. If you can handle Splash Mountain, then Tower of Terror shouldn't be too hard. Just relax and enjoy the brief airtime!

Eat your Wheaties, brother! Then just take a deep breath and get yourself on the rides.

I won't go upside down, so no Raging Spirits for me, but I do everything else. When Tower of Terror first opened in Orlando it terrified me, but after riding many times on many coasts, when I ride now--as I did yesterday here in Tokyo DisneySea--I just chuckle and enjoy it.

The lesson is to learn to conquer your fear through repetition.

What happened on ST? u got nothing to worry about on there besides one minor Drop sequence, its awesome!
JTTCOTE, dude you need to go on this, it is the best ride at Disneysea, u dont have to worry about anything, unless ur scared of a big monster?
HMMMMM i cant say much about TOT cause i havn't been on it yet, but im sure its a great ride! and once again u got nothing to worry about.
StormRider is just an everyday Sim, but it sure is one heck of a ride, the scariest part is probably just a sudden *Cough* Malfunction with a certain missile...
The rest YOU have to go on man! how will you overcome your fears, if you never go on Some Rides? theres some helpful advice lol.
And yeh Raging Spirits, is a short ride so it will be over before it starts lol.
You'll be fine on all these rides trust me, you aint lived till you've been on a Great Disneyland Ride.

Grimezy, these phobias are mental disabilities. It's pointless to even try, andmore pointless to even ask for help in the first place, since history dictates these individuals only seek reasurrance, but in the end, they do not help themselves by conquring their phobias. In other words.. a waste of time for both you, me, and MickeyMania.

If you can do Tower of Terror and Screamin, you can do anything. Space Mountain and Screamin do not go any faster than 30 to 46 MPH if I am correct. You go faster in a car than you do on those two rides.

Those coasters just feel like their going faster but they are not.

I enjoyed Tower of Terror the most cause I got a few seconds of air time. But it is not that bad if you ask me. It's my new favorite ride.

To be honest, I don't think any of the rides go over 50 MPH. Maybe someone can back me up on that?

Regardless, people drive their cars at faster speeds than most of the Disneyland rides.

Or are you just nervous about some sort of intensity or something?

MickeyMania, call Disneyland to see if they offer the non-motion ride of Star Tours if you think that might make you feel more comfortable.

                        And what's "JTTCOTE"

I can see people maybe being afraid of the quick take off, but like I said, people usually drive around 55 MPH at times too, especially on Freeways .

And as far as I know, so does R&R Coasters at MGM and WDSP. Everest's big drop also hits about 56 mph at the bottom, and Test Track claims to be the fastest at 65mph.

Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain both top out at between 28 and 35 miles per hour. SLOW. Space Mountain feels much faster because it's in the dark and the G-force is stronger on one of those final curves. Test Track is much much faster and the only reason it feels fast at all is because the car has no roof and the track is banked.

I'm terrified of heights and hate the general feel of falling, but I love rollercoasters of all kinds (usually the bigger & badder, the better), Splash Mountain (it's the getting wet I don't like on that one) and I ride TOT every time I'm at MGM. If I can do it... anyone can.

I keep saying to myself that 'next time I'll do ToT' every time I go to a Disney resort, but I can't bring myslef into doing it. I want to and all, but I just look at it and shiver. I used to be afraid of coasters until friends forced me on one with 4 inversions and I like it. I can do Dueling Dragons but not ToT.
I'm sure if you can do ToT anything else must be easy, and going upside down only feels like being pushed into a seat, nothing more.
