  • Tokoyo Disney Questions.

So, as it turns out, Dustin's Aunt and Uncle who are stationed in Japan would like to host us for a visit some time this upcoming spring. SO... guess what is on my plan menu? TOKYO DISNEY!!! My husband is like "We're going on a once ina life time trip to freakin' Japan and you want to go to DISNEYLAND???" I was like "Correction - It's called Tokyo Disney" (in a smart alec voice). Heheh! Yeah.. I guess I'ma Disney nerd.

So, does anyone have any helpful hints or anything. I don't have the slightest clue about T.D. .. I rememebr something about the lines being long and that the Pooh ride is rad, but that's it.

Any other tips for sightseeing in Japan? I really want to do my homework and truly enjoy it while I'm there.

    Thanks guys.

I thought it looked funny!! Yeah... I'm one of those girls who needs to use spellcheck, but hardly ever uses it.

^^ Yeah, thanks for the link. I've already looked under the Tokyo Disney section of Mice Chat... there was a few things, but not enough to answer a lot of my questions.

          Danke.

Well, Miss Violet... fire away.... there are a few of us here that know
a lot (about Japan and TDR), but it would help knowing:
            * how long do you have?
            * which cities you'll be at?
            * what are you interested in? (shopping, culture, site seeing, nature, etc)

Why thank you. Here's another post that I wrote a while ago for another user with some info:

                That's great.
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2164.html This is a guide to the spectacular city that is Tokyo. Be sure to see at least something like go to Shinjuku and Shibuya for a couple of hours.
http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/index_e.html I'm guessing that you've been here, look around it and get a feel for what it's like. As for hotels, this page will be of great assistance: http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/t...wto/05_01.html Pick hotels from there, they all have their own web pages as well. It will indeed be pretty cold in January/February, coldest time of the year so bundle up. Some must see things that often get missed are:
                • Mermaid Lagoon Theater
                • Fortress Explorations
                • Mickey Mouse Revue: it's not too special but this is the only place you can see it
                • TDL Splash Mountain has some significant differences
                • There are lots of cute shows at TDL. You can't really see them all but do what you can, you'll get a schedule with your park guide
                • You must see TDS's Lagoon Shows as well as Mystic Rhythms and Big Band Beat.
As for dining, I would just do what your budget allows. Even if you don't eat at these places, you need to see them, just peek.
                • Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall
                • Magellan's
                • Vulcania
                • S.S. Columbia Dinining Room
I guess if you don't know much, then I'll have to tell you some tips. Tokyo DisneySea is a must do. I'm guessing you'll be getting a two day pass so that won't be a problem. Hotel info is above in that case. DisneySea's best attractions are Journey to the Center of the Earth, Tower of Terror, and Indiana Jones Adventure, go at 'em like a mad dog. Make sure you watch a significant amount of entertainment at Tokyo Disneyland and the things posted above. Take some time to just bask in DisneySea's glorious beauty.

I can be of much more assistance if you could post some more info about your trip, hope this helps!

Yes, feel free to ask specific questions.

What, exactly, would you like to know?

Make sure you carve out at least a day for Tokyo Disneyland and another day for DisneySea.

Tell us how much time you will have at each park and we'll all tell you how to accomplish the most during that period.

Interesting way of putting it... In my trip to HKDL this past week, the HKDL billboard outside the HK Int'l Airport features a Halloween pumpkin Mickey and reads "Carve a day out to join us at HKDL.." Interesting.

                        Great

                        Here are some informations...

Most Japanese schools take spring break from March to early April.
...And do you know about notorious "Golden Week" ?
In 2007, it's 4/28~5/6. TDR will be enormously crowded on this week.

When in April do the breaks last? I'd like to time our trip for after the school breaks but before Golden Week and, hopefully, in time for some cherry-blossem viewing.

To quote some excellent advice I received in response to a similar question. Look to the room rates and calendar for the resorts hotels. The smaller the rate, the smaller the crowds. April 9-13 is good, so is May 7-11th. Dates to avoid include April 1-5 and May 3-6th.

Good luck, I hate you. <- OK, that's not true. I'm just jealous.

                              and on a side note....

The only Japanese I know comes from manga and would be of precious little use in normal conversation. How well would I be able to get around at the Tokyo park, enjoy attractions, order food, etc... I don't want to seem as clueless as some of the folks I see wandering around DLR from time to time.

I did the same thing...went to visit a friend and spend 3 days in the parks...here is my advise...go to TDL first, spend a day and then spend another day at TDS...it is better than TDL and you will be very upset if you miss it once you see how awsome a park it is.
                                OLM!!!
There is no better park than TDS

Almost all the signage are in english.
                                  City Hall has english maps
Many/most of the CMs speak/understand/read english
There are special english speaking CMs who have badges to identify them
Many Japanese (esp. students) speak english.
                                  Most Japanese write/read english

So all you have to know is:
"______ wa dokodesu ka" (where is _______?"
"doomo arigatoo" (thank you very much)
                                  "______ o kudasai" (give me ______)

                                  ^_^

Actually, the Mira Costa isn't as expensive as I'd feared. Maybe we'll be able to swing it.

Ok, here is a total newbie deluxe question.... what is the difference between Disneysea and regualt Tokyo Disney? *ducks, gets hit with a apple anyway*

Lets see... I went to Japan last year and made a trip to Tokyo Disney Sea. Anyway, make sure you hit that park... it really is one of the, if not the best, of the disney parks in terms of design and architecture... Tokyo DL is nice, but its to much like the CA version, so I skipped it.

In regards to sightseeing, if you take the main train that stops at Disney, and take it to the Tokyo Station, and then transfer to the Yamanote Line, which makes a loop around tokyo, I would say to hit Shinjuku, Harajuku (for the meiji Shinju Shrine), Shibuya (which is where I stayed, and is a really cool place to walk around), and Akihabara (the electronics capital of tokyo). Also, make sure to get some authentic ramen while you are there, or try to find a really good okonomiyaki place, as that is some damn good food. If you have any other questions, shoot me a PM, and I will try to answer them.

EDIT: in regards to your previous post question about TDS and TDL, the differences are like night and day... TDL is basically a carbon copy of the DL parks around the world (ie. Space Mountain, haunted Mansion, castle, ect...), TDS is something I never saw before. Its broken into 5 themed areas, with rides I never experienced before, with the exception of Indiana Jones, but honestly TDS is really something that needs to be seen.
