This sounds really weird, but I found a unique, strange way to improve the Vulcania restaurant in Mysterious Island. I mean, Mysterious Island has Journey to the Center of the Earth, the park's best attraction, so why not make the restaurant also cool like that? Told you it was going to be weird, but I had this idea... I don't know why I thought of it, and I'm aware there probably isn't enough space...
I've never been to TDS, so I'm not sure how big the Vulcania restaurant is.
Ok, Vulcania could be split into two: Subterranean and Oceanic. Similar to Rainforest Cafe in Disneyland and Disney World (don't think it's in Tokyo), except not so cheesy and actually really awesome. So, you make reservations at either Subterranean or Oceanic. The waiter leads you to your table... to get to Subterranean, you take the tunnel leading further underground, walking past glowing crystals. To get to Oceanic, you take the tunnel with aquariums and fish all around.
Subterranean, of course, is themed to Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Oceanic is themed to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Ok, so let's say you got reservations at Oceanic, since it isn't as awesome as Subterranean, IMO. Once you're there at the main dining area, it looks as if you're inside the Nautilus or a shipwreck, with aquariums all around with live marine fish! Outside, it looks like you're looking at Atlantis. This idea was once proposed for Disneyland Paris, but never made it. (I don't have the link right now -- sorry)
Now if you decided to get reservations at Subterranean, you are led through this tunnel (not super long or anything, just a tunnel to hide the surprises of the main dining room). There are crystal formations coming up, and finally the main dining room is awesome!! There's a gigantic mushroom that almost reaches the ceiling, and is the centerpiece. Little glowing bugs (like the Pirates of the Caribbean effects) and electric gases light up the place. There are subterranean creatures (like on the attraction) and since the CMs in Tokyo are so nice, they let you pet some of the creatures.
They hold a gigantic insect or cooing mushroom (animatronic, of course), and you can stroke its surface, which has to be specialized to feel real. THAT alone would make dining at Subterranean totally worth it. And imagine the waterfalls and glowing crystal chambers scattered around to make the illusion that the room goes on forever and ever, when nobody realizes the space is actually tight, because illusion makes it look huge!
Weird idea, I know, but it came to me suddenly, and I thought I'd share it with you. I realize there might not be enough space, but... if not in Vulcania, is there any other place they could put something so awesome like this? Too bad Mysterious Island is so small!
