Does anybody know why Tokyo Disneyland isn't participating in the Grand Marshall giveaway for the Year of a Million Dreams?, the winner gets to go the the other four Magic Kingdom parks. I know Tokyo Disney Resort isn't participating in the Year of a Million Dreams but I thought Hong Kong wasn't either.

Re: No Tokyo in Dreams Parade giveaway
TDL is not owned by Disney. It is owned and operated by Oriental Land Company under licensing from Walt Disney Co. OLC calls the shot in regards to what goes on in the park. They pay for whatever events or promotions go on at the park, and Disney Co. just OK's the project if the standards are met, and most times... OLC exceeds Disney's standards in many ways.
Similarly.... OLC did not participate in the "Happiest Celebration On Earth" that Disney Co. claimed was celebrated around the World. However, OLC did pay tribute to DL's 50th in a very settle way.

Disney probarely don't want to cover the cost of flights and accomendation to Tokyo. Especially when it will show off just how good the Tokyo Disney Resort is compare to the other parks.Last edited by Malin; 10-14-2007, 10:41 PM.

Re: No Tokyo in Dreams Parade giveaway
My understanding is that Hong Kong Disneyland is a joint venture between Disney and the Hong Kong govement. However most of the money invested in this project is funded by the Hong Kong Govement, which is why Hong Kong Disneyland management are looking into other alternatives to build new attractions for this park. Rumour is the Hong Kong Govement is looking into selling its stake in the property soon anyway, so I wouldn't be suprise to see Disney take a bigger stake in the company. As Bob Iger is said to be well behind this park in his continuing plans to increase Disney's presence in China.

That being said, the benefits of TDR parks NOT being owned by Disney remain quite obvious.
