  • [Question] Conventions/events taking place during my visit?

I'll be visiting WDW after Thanksgiving. Does anyone know where I can find info on any conventions, competitions or events taking place in and around WDW during my stay? I'd prefer not to go during a cheerleading competition or some similar event. Thank you.

Conventions are a big business at Walt Disney World. Walt Disney World also has some of the largest convention spaces in the Orlando area, if not the entire state. The covention area handles everything from family reunions and weddings to huge corporate events. There is a convention group on Disney property every single day of the year. Even though Thanksgiving is not a prime comvention time, the parks and resorts will still be packed because of the holiday.

If you are trying to avoid conventions, you'll never go to Disney World.

The Cheerleading competitions are usually January through March, however the rest of the year has High School Bands, Pop Warner Football World Series, marathons and Triathalons. They don't keep adding to the Wide World of Sports for the fun of it.

These sporting events combines with the weddings, ccorporate conventions and "magical Gatherings" keep many of the hotels filled through the year.

Well, I would advise this even if there were no conventions. DLR in CA is a much better place to visit and the quality there is better than WDW's, maybe because the best gifts come in small packages?

Thanks for the info. You are correct. I guess I am speaking primarily about the cheerleading competitions, or any group similar in nature. Based on my previous experiences, the cheerleaders have such a strong presence in the parks as opposed to most large groups who hold events in Orlando.

Crowds are not such a huge deal to me. It's really more about the in-your-face caffeinated cheerleaders who can make a trip a little less enjoyable. Of course, they have the right to enjoy themselves, too. I just don't want to be there when it happens.

Pop Warner (also full of cheertastic energy) doesn't hit until the 2nd week of December (when, I'll be there).

          Here's wishing you a cheer-free vacation.

How is this relevant to the OPs question?

It's not relevant at all. It's yet another excuse for the WDW basher in residence to do his thing.
