  • [Question] "Preferred Room?"

While checking out reservations and planning possible future trips, I noticed that with many resorts, there's a "preferred room" option after "water view" or "standard" or whatever. What makes a preferred room preferred?

It's usually closer to the bus stops.

depends on where you are... water view, parking lot, trees, pool.

        Re: "Preferred Room?"

        It really is resort-specific.

At Pop Century, a preferred room puts you closer to Classic Hall, the location of the the front desk, food court, etc.; it also puts you closer to the one and only bus stop.

Same basic idea at each of the 3 All Stars resorts.

At Caribbean Beach Resort, "preferred location" puts you closer to Old Port Royale, the complex that has the restaurant, food court, main pool, shops, arcade, water sports rentals, etc. Because CBR has bus stops at each village, preferred location doesn't get you any closer to a bus stop.

I don't think any of the other resorts have a category that uses the word "preferred" in any way.

In each case, the common thread is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. There is nothing on the inside of a "preferred" room that makes it any different than any other room. It's just its location within the resort.

A lot of times, if you check in early enough and get a nice CM, they will put you in the building of your choice anyway.

Basically, it means you are in a building closer to the food court and check in. The main buildings, in other words.

Sometimes it has nothing to do with being "nice" or "not nice." If all the preferred location rooms at CBR are sold out for the length of your stay, they can't possibly give you a room in a preferred location building if you didn't already reserve and pay for a preferred location room.

Except at CBR. The front desk is in a separate building from the food court and the other good stuff ... the Custom House and Old Port Royale are basically halfway across the resort from each other.

Yup...just too lazy to clarify. I believe it's close to Barbados.

                    Re: "Preferred Room?"

It can mean many things for example:

Good view - Savanna view @ AKL, MK view at Contemporary, water view @ numerous resorts

Convenient location - rooms located near the the main building(s) @ All Star Resorts, CBR, etc

Well okay...I guess it just means 2 things

                      Re: "Preferred Room?"

know this, at Pop Century I was able to get up close to the "Preferred Rooms" without having to pay the "Preferred" pricing! Just call the resort and ask where the division starts between the 2 choices, standard and preferred, and then put notes on your reservation that you want "so and so" building, bottom floor, at check in. It worked for me during the last Halloween season!

Of course that is if you are staying at Pop Century resort.

                              Re: "Preferred Room?"

Preferred Location rooms are, as the others have stated, closer to the main buildings, food court, bus stops, etc. There is an additional charge for these locations. Usually they run about $10.00 per night more. These are located at the Value Resorts & Pop Century. These resorts are extremely large so these rooms go pretty fast. There was not always a charge for these locations, but as the resorts started to get known by guests the problem was the number of requests for these rooms. Hence, they split them and made them "preferred" at an additional cost.
