  • [Question] Maybe a dumb question - gift cards

Can you use Disney gift cards as payment at any of the counter service or restaurants on property or in the parks?

Re: Maybe a dumb question - gift cards

Disney issued gift cards can be used anywhere in the resorts, except where only cash is accepted (like some vending carts).
Now, generic gift cards, like those issued with a Visa logo or another credit card company can be used just like any credit card would. That is the information I got some time ago. Maybe someone can offer further info on this.

As I understand it, restaurants should be ok.

This is all good info. I got a gift card for my birthday on 12/1 and haven't used it yet. Nice to know that I can use it anywhere in Disneyland or DCA. I figured I could, but like reading the confirmation.

        Thanks.

Any restriction on their use should be printed in the back of the card or in their original packaging (if any).

^ Problem with that is, tons of people who've never used Disney Gift Cards, like me, are going to be receiving a $200 Disney Gift Card with their WDW booking. There is no packaging to read ahead of time in order to plan where to use it in advance. All there is is a voucher that only lists its terms & conditions, not those of the gift card.

Therefore, any and all info on the do's & dont's, the can's & cant's of Disney Gift Cards will be extremely useful.

Re: Maybe a dumb question - gift cards

When I booked my late January trip, I was told that the only restriction is the following: you can't use the $200 gift card to pay at non-Disney operated stores or restaurants. So you can't use it at the Rainforest Cafe outside of Animal Kingdom, for example, because that's not owned and operated by Disney.

(Realizing that this is a WDW forum)

So I would assume that the same restrictions would apply to the Downtown Disney establishments in Anaheim.

Would you be able to use them in the Disney property hotels? Rooms/gift shops/restaurants?
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Here's a question I had wondered about: Can I use part of the free $200 gift card to pay for upgrading the included MYW base tickets to Park Hoppers? Somewhere I got the idea in my head that that couldn't be done, but now I'm not sure.

I don't see why you could not do that.
