  • [Question] rental car - car seat for toddler? (how did you go about it?)

We have decided to rent a car because of having a toddler with us on the trip to give us some flexibilty and now I am wondering about a car seat. How do people do this?

Our car seat is gimongous - I really don't see taking it with us (we are flying in).
For those of you who don't take your child seat - what do you do when you are there, asuming your child needs one?

When I was at the Alamo Car Care Center at WDW, I saw a big stack of child seats off to the side. I'm assuming they'll rent a child seat to you for a fee/deposit, but best to contact your rental car agency/location for the specific information.

Most car rental places give you the options of including a car set (for an additional fee of course).

I'd call the place and ask them if there is an option of renting one, it would of course be an additional fee.

I believe almost all of the car rental places are required by law to have car seat rentals available. I would suggest however, that you reserve one in advance when you book your car....You would hate to wait till you got there to find out they are all out....then you have a problem.

IIRC, Hertz via AAA provides a single car-seat as a benefit of booking via AAA.

We're driving down in April, and although we've got a seat booked, I'm partial to just grabbing the known-good seat out of my car and strapping it into the rental.

Take your car seat with you... my friends did that. They just checked it at the gate, and got it when we landed in Orlando.

It's cheaper than requesting one from the car rental place.

I have rented the seat before, but it is an extra cost. I usually bring my own. It doesn't count as one of your checked in items. In other words, if you are only permitted by your airline to check in one bag free of charge, you can check in your 1 bag and your car seat. I have one of those car seat travel bags, which makes it a bit easier to carry.

Well if it's not charged as a checked bag, then by all means bring your own car seat!

Yep- it should be free for most. It was from Delta when I traveled and USAir. In May I will be flying JetBlue and its free for them also. I would rather take my own than pay.

                      from American Airline
.When traveling with a child, checked car seats and strollers will continue to be free. Other items checked as baggage will be considered as part of your checked baggage allotment and charges would apply.

                      From Jet Blue

If checking a child safety seat, it will not count as one of your checked bags and
                      there is no fee assessed
