  • [Other] The Animal Kingdom Dinosaurs Coaster that never was

Ten years ago, WDI imagineers envisioned a roller coaster for Dinoland USA in Animal Kingdom. This would have been MUCH better than the actual one, as audio animatronics dinosaurs, including the big " Carnosaurus" AA would have been part of the ride. For unknown reasons, they did a different choice, but you can see the beautiful renderings at the end of this article:

Disney and more: A Tribute to Tom Thordarson - a.k.a " THOR " - Artwork - Part Two : Dinosaurs Ride Concepts

Note that the first renderings shown in the article was another incredible concept of a dinosaurs flume ride developped for Landmark Entertainment, unfortunately never built, too.

I hate looking at these pictures, they show me how good Dinoland could have been!

Wow... that's some amazing stuff. You can really see how his "flume ride" work eventually evolved into IOA's Jurassic Park River Adventure. And that coaster... man, wouldn't that have been a MUCH better option than the off-the-shelf wild mouse that now pollutes Dinoland? I love Animal Kingdom, but if wasn't for Dinosaur, I probably would never visit Dinoland at all. A small, strategically placed tactical nuke should be aimed directly at Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama so the Imagineers can get a fresh start.

It was going to be called "The Excavator" and it was going to go through a dinosaur excavation site so it would blend with the boneyard and the dig site and there were plans for AA dinosaurs along the Cretaceous Trail. A lot of good plans but got shelved by Paul Pressler and the bean counters.

That would have been cool. Though I would have really liked the Beastly Kingdomme stuff like the Dragon Tower, Mother Goose shop, Troll Bridge and Unicorn Maze. I posted some stuff on it here awhile back
