  • Osbourne Lights were on 09.21.05!

Before and during (I assume) the convention last night at the Disney-MGM Studios the lights on the Streets of America.

Blue walls hiding some lights, light equipment and such on the left side of the street and convention tables being set up on the right. The Peace On Earth glob (top and center) was spinning for a while too.

The Herbie Fully Loaded giant move poster was replaced with Narnia.

Well they are just testing some of the lights. They also want to turn the lights on earlier this year so that's why they are up. It takes months to put them up... so I guess as long as they are up and need to be tested why not now or during the conventions?

^^^I dunno ... I guess 'cause I got problems with Christmas becoming a yearround holiday. Kinda like walking into Macy's on Labor Day and seeing Christmas decorations up when it's still summer. Just reeks of overt, money-grubbing, commercialism.

I should also say that I'm not a huge fan of the lights. They were cool back in the mid-90s, but I think it's time (especially without the backlot structures) to send them back to Little Rock and come up with something new, different and Disney for the holidays at the Studio.

I can understand that. However, I have never seen them before so this is my first and only experience to the lights. It's one of the only bonus things to going into work at 6:30 on a tuesday before extra magic morning hours-- seeing the lights on because it's still dark and they are working/testing them.

Too bad you didnt get to see the Lights when they were dona at Residential Street. It was a much much nicer lighting display in that area. NYC Street is just not as nice IMO...the display does not look right over those tall facades.

It's technically The Streets of America now... They not go all the way to the Muppet area as workers were stringing lights up there today. There are walls down on the right side (as you walk down to LMA or left side as you walk to the end sign/wall). I hope to get more of a photo update at night once I get back there at night after the HalloWishes viewing attempts.

Big Piglet Fan; great photos! I have to agree with TDLFan; I miss Residential Street Osborne lights. I'll have to check "Streets of America" tests in a couple weeks when I'll overnight at the ugliest Doubletree on the planet (pineapples, anyone?).

One Northerner to another: don't you miss the geography from up north sometimes(?) like hills - ridges - teeny tiny abnormalities distinguishing one parcel of real estate from another?

Congrats on WDWCP - I wish I'd been able to get that leg up.

Thanks. And um... I like that pineapple hotel. Did you know that another MiceChatter designed it?! How much of a small world is it now? Crazy, crazy!

Pigletfan, Residential Street is not the same area as "Streets of America". Residential St. was located where the new MOTORS theater is at now. Golden Girls and Empty Nest house facades were there... The suburbia setting was in my opinion, more appropriate for the lights display.
