  • [Idea] The Haunted Mansion: A Nightmare Before Christmas

This is bound to spark some controversy, an HMH overlay I have planned for WDW.

    The Nightmare Before Christmas

Creature: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and ghouls, kindly drag your attention towards the Haunted Mansion. In just a few moments, we will perform our annual holiday lighting of the mansion. We would be horrified if you joined us in the countdown. Is every BODY ready? In five, four, three, two, one!

    Ghost Host:

With these words, a grim butler or maid steps forward into the chamber and bids us these last friendly words.

Servant: To see how Jack has wrecked our halls, kindly drag your bodies away from the walls!

    • Zero overlooking several Halloween Town monsters that include the Hanging Tree holding a strand of garland, the Devil holding several packages, the Creature Under the Stairs holding sticks of dynamite, the Cyclops holding a zombie-like train, the Melting Man holding a dead turtle wearing a bow, and the Werewolf holding a collection of twisted candy canes.
    • Several demented toys breaking free from their packaging, including Scary Teddy bursting out from a coffin-shaped package, a jack-o-lantern in the box popping out from its box, a strange demonic creature emerging from a hatbox, and a wooden duck ridden with bloodied bullet holes pushing out of its lair.
    • Sandy Claws Jack climbing down a chimney with his sleigh parked nearby, several ghosts holding packages flying around.
    • Oogie Boogie holding a large lollipop at the opening of a giant Christmas sack full of sickening bugs and candy.

The ghost host continues to narrate as this sickening version of Christmas continues to unfold, the music getting more and more suspenseful by the second.

Boarding our sleigh the lap bar mysteriously floats down and we prepare to enter the main portion of the mansion. The portraits mentioned earlier continue to follow our every move with their eyes as the ghost host continues.

Ghost Host: Yes down through the chimney Jack flew like a bat, clutching his magical Sandy Claws sack. He ripped open the sack and in moments it seems, created a Christmas you have in bad dreams.

Ghost Host: Nothing here was forgotten, it all looked so pleasant. A coffin Jack says makes a fine Christmas present (Evil laugh)!

Leota: On the 13th day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me.

On the 9th day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me.

On the 5th day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me.

On the first day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me: A star! A brilliant star for my fortune card tree!

Turning around and facing three gift-wrapped mirrors topped by skulls and crossbones we find that Lock, Shock, or Barrel has hitched a ride with us in the center of our sleigh, in lieu of the usual hitchhiking ghost. A small scroll resides across the bottom of each mirror reading a different holiday phrase relating to the attraction.

3: And to all a good fright!

Jack: Merry Christmas one and all!

Jack: This world will not forget my Christmas night (Maniacal laugh)!

The usual dead end sign following Sally has been adorned with a single wreath. As we pass beneath it the ghost host returns for one last statement.

    • God Rest You Merry Grinning Ghosts (Presented by the Behemoth from NBC and the British ghosts of the HM)

A frightening world of Christmas dreams to lead our hearts astray.

Oh, when grinning ghosts come out and socialize!

Chorus: Within the mansion you will find a holiday of fright!

A wicked mix of mold and mirth, oh spirits take your flight!

    Cold dead eyes!
Oh when grinning ghosts come out and socialize!
Oh when grinning ghosts come out and socialize!
    • Old Mansion Tree (Presented by the bat boy, mummy, corpse kid, corpse mom, and corpse dad that seem to be dancing around a dead Christmas tree)

Zombie: Old mansion tree, old mansion tree, your leaves are sharp and prickly.

Chorus: Your branches droop with moldy care; your smell of mildew fills the air.
Old mansion tree, old mansion tree, you clear the room so quickly.

Zombie: Oh how we decorate you!

Zombie: With ornaments we weight you.

    Chorus: Your limbs are limp with bats and bows;
    Your tinsel tarnished years ago.
Old mansion tree, old mansion tree, a fireplace awaits you! (Zombie laughs evilly)

Ghost Host: A family filled visit is never complete without a good scarol, so sing it up sweet!

Chorus: Over the graveyard and through the tombs to the Haunted Mansion we go!

Over the graveyard and through the tombs oh see the spirits play!

    (Repeat two times)

    • Nightmare Before Christmas Medley (Presented by the Mayor, the real Santa Claus in a bag, and the killer duck)

    Chorus: Making Christmas, making Christmas
    is so fine!
    It's ours this time
and won't the children be surprised

Time to give them something fun
They'll talk about for years to come
'Cause when the full moon starts to climb
    We'll all sing out!

    Chorus: What's this? What's this?
    There's color everywhere

There's white things in the air

    I can't believe my eyes
    I must be dreaming
Wake up, jack, this isn't fair

    What's this?
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

    What's this?
    The streets are lined with
    little creatures laughing
    everybody seems so happy
    Have I possibly gone daffy?
    What is this?
    What's this?

Ghost Host: With this song you can sing just like Lock, Shock, and Barrel. Those three are quite strange but they do love a scarol!

Chorus: Kidnap the Sandy Claws, lock him up real tight
Throw away the key and then
    Turn off all the lights
    Kidnap the Sandy Claws
    throw him in a box
    Bury him for ninety years
    then see if he talks
    Kidnap the Sandy Claws
    Tie him in a bag
    Throw him in the ocean
Then, see if he is sad
Because Mr. Oogie Boogie is the meanest guy around
if I were on his Boogie list, I'd get out of town!
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Kidnap the Sandy Claws, lock him up real tight
Throw away the key and then

Zombie: Turn off all the lights!
    • Scary Bells (Presented by Scary Teddy holding two little bells, a jack-o-lantern-in-the-box nearby)

Zombie: Crashing through the night, with a horrid mangling sound.
Clang each heart with fright, terrorize the town.
Bells from belfries ring, making spirits rise!
The freaky tones like voices moan, throughout the midnight skies!

Oh what fun it is to scream and terrorize us all.
Ah, scary bells, scary bells, with your manic sound,
When you toll, the spirits roll from six feet underground!

My horse began to rear, the scary bells did clang.
I fell into an open grave to cheer myself I sang:

Oh what fun it is to scream and terrorize us all.
Ah, scary bells, scary bells, with your manic sound,
When you toll, the spirits roll from six feet underground!
When you toll, the spirits roll from six feet underground!
    • Up on the Housetop (Presented by Sandy Claws Jack about to make his way down a chimney with Zero)

Chorus: Jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing
Jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing

Hag: Up on the housetop bone-deer pause.
Look its Jack as Sandy Claws!
Down through the chimney with lots of toys,

All through the mansion there goes Jack!
Down through the graveyard with his sack!

Jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing
Jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing

Hag: First comes the stocking for the headless knight,
Oh just look what a horrible sight!
Jack left a dolly with a zombie head!

All through the mansion there goes Jack!
Down through the graveyard with his sack!

Jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing
Jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing, jing

My oh my, what a kindly host!
Jack left a train with squid-like tracks!

Chorus: And a crazy puppet with a great big ax.

All through the mansion there goes Jack!
Down through the graveyard with his sack!

All through the mansion there goes Jack!
Down through the graveyard with his sack!
    • The 13 Days of Christmas (Presented by the Undersea Gal and the stretching portrait alligator from the normal HM)

Ghost: When Christmas comes around, how I love a surprise! This next lovely scarol brings tears to my eyes.

Hag: On the first day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me:

Demon: On the second day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me:

    Two candied brains!

On the third day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me:

    Three bat bows!

    Demon: Two candied brains!

Vampire: On the fourth day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me:

    Four biting wreathes!

    Hag: Three bat bows!

    Demon: Two candied brains!

Chorus: On the fifth day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me:

    Five twisted toys!

    Vampire: Four biting wreathes!

    Hag: Three bat bows!

    Demon: Two candied brains!

Wait! Wait just a minute, how many days are there?

Distressed Woman: On the thirteenth day of Christmas, my ghoul love gave to me:

    Thirteen ghosts a grinning!

    Werewolf: Twelve creepy cookies!

    Hag: Eleven dolls a dangling!

    Demon: Ten frightening fruitcakes!

    Hag: Nine shocking stockings!

    Vampire: Eight frothing reindeer!

    Hag: Seven ghouls a goring!

    Werewolf: Six corpses caroling!

    Chorus: Five twisted toys!

    Vampire: Four biting wreathes!

    Hag: Three bat bows!

    Demon: Two candied brains!

Chorus: when the crypt doors creak and the tombstones quake
spooks come out for a swinging wake
happy haunts materialize, and begin to vocalize,
grim grinning' ghosts come out to socialize

now don't close your eyes and don't try to hide
or a silly spook may sit by your side
shrouded in a daft disguise, they pretend to terrorize,
grim grinning' ghosts come out to socialize

as the moon climbs high o'er the dead oak tree
spooks come out for the midnight spree
creepy creeps with eerie eyes, start to shriek and harmonize
grim grinning' ghosts come out to socialize!

When you hear the knell of a requiem bell
weird glows gleam where spirits dwell
restless bones etherealize, rise as spooks of every size
    (Maniacal laughter)

Re: The Haunted Mansion: A Nightmare Before Christmas

It's basically the Haunted Mansion Holiday set at Disney World's mansion. Basically a combo of Disneyland and Tokyo with a whole bunch of twists like:

          1. New stretching portraits
          2. Life-sized monsters from Halloween Town
          3. New music
          4. New twisted toys not even seen in the movie
          5. Falling snow in the graveyard
          6. And much more

I understand it's very lengthy, but I assure that you'll probably like it...I hope. It took me about a week to pull the whole thing together.

Sadly, its true that this Mansion will not be seeing the Holiday overlay anytime soon. First off, they did away with any holiday overlays of attractions because of the time to install and remove them. Secondly, the Mansion just recently had a few million dollars spent on it to bring people back. Disneylands answer was HMH, WDW's answer was awesome new stuff.

                    Not quite.
Disneyland started Haunted Mansion Holiday back in 2001. In Spring 2006, Disneyland added the ghost bride, the five changing husband portraits and a number of smaller changes which were rolled into the Walt Disney World updates of Summer 2007.

WDW got awesome new stuff; DL got awesome new stuff in addition to HMH which they already developed.

I personally would LOVE to see a Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay at WDW. I'm a big fan of Nightmare Before Christmas. Sure out Mansion got some nice upgrades along with the SERIOUS TLC it needed badly recently, but they're missing a HUGE opportunity with this.

When they got rid of the Country Bears Christmas show, LOTS of people complained. I even received a callback from a CM who was obviously reading a script, trying to encourage me to come out for Christmas there anyway. Yeah, take away a show I like and still want me to come out? No thanks.

Once again, WDW management doesn't get it at all.

Why? It's actually a really cool overlay. I rode DL's a couple years ago and I loved it!

I tihnk that the holiday overlays to the Country Bears was cool. IaSW Holiday Cruise, although I've never seen it, sounds like a cool idea as well. Seriously? Why not? I won't completely buy the money argument. When I was a mechanic for Maverick Helicopters in Las Vegas our salaries where paid by the sales of expensive tourist photos and videos of the trips. Does anyone think that Disney is any different? I think that the lack of holiday overlays are somewhere between lack of imagination and foresight by the management.
