  • [Question] Tweeting from WDW with a UK phone, help

Does anyone know how using a UK phone to tweet while in WDW would work? Would it still be free if I tweet to the UK tweet number, or would I actually be better tweeting to an american number?

    Anyone had any experience?

If it works the way it would taking a US phone abroad, I'd say get a cheap, no contract "pay as you go" phone once you reach the States. Otherwise you're probably going to wind up with a HUMUNGOID cell phone bill due to international data roaming charges.

Under most cases it would be texting under roaming - which isn't free. But it depends if your provider allows you to roam for free in that country (unlikely to the US).

You'll jump on the GSM providers here, and still be able to text to international numbers in most cases. Things to worry about though are 'shortcut' type numbers - often these can not be reached internationally.

For instance, the taxi company in Oslo is a short number, 023023. I can't call that number from my international roaming handset, but I can from my local SIM card.

I think for that you'll probably have to switch your twitter setup to allow you to tweet to the domestic number. Googling may find some similar posts on this kind of travel topic since twitter is so widely used now and travel would be a common topic for it.

As aimster mentioned, you can buy a 'throw away' here phone which you basically just pay up front, and then setup your twitter to get tweets from that number. I'm pretty sure you should be able to use these types of SIM cards as long as your phone is unlocked. I haven't used the 'pay as you go' plans, but there are several options for that here in the states as well.

$30 up front may be cheaper for you overall then dealing with your plan at home, etc

By "Tweet" do you mean twitter? If so, can't you just browse to the twitter page on your phone, or if you have a smartphone (iPhone) with a twitter app, just use that....

a popular way to tweet is to text to a specific phone number. So you can tweet from any phone, not just web phones.

It's just another way to use twitter, instead of the webpage or a specific app (both which use data plans instead of just SMS)

unfortunately I go from airport to WDW, so no chance of buying a cheap phone. My wife has an american phone, but then I've got to get it set up on my account etc. May all be more hassle than its worth.

changing your twitter setup is quite easy - if she's already got an american phone I'd just use it.
