Space Mountain has started its soft opening. Attractions Magazine was on the scene for first-looks at SM's new "interactive queue" and the brand new post-show promoting intergalactic eco-tourism.

Any thoughts fellow space travelers? >:3

I Think it looks quite nice. I'm very glad that the view from the Peoplemover is unhindered besides not being able to see the queue. I think it would've been even better if they put fiber optic stars on the ceiling of the queue so that you can look down into a starry field from the Peoplemover. I still think that the games make it look like an arcade you would find in the 80s.

Based on that video, I m not terribly impressed. Video games and TV screens on the pre and post show areas? Is that the best they could do? Oh well, at least in brings WDWs Space mt to 20th century standards. Not really the 21st.

I think at end of the post show I think they did better than before. The Post show sucked majorly and I think that the screens add more movement to the area. Thank god they removed that terrible 70s pre-show commercial before you get to the "Control Center"

Maybe this thread's name should have been "The eagle has laid an egg"?

Heres the whole ride through. The most notable changed is the speed tunnel. They change the whole sound to that and the end of it. The rest of it is pretty much just a nice refresh.

Also, They repainted and reupholstered the vehicles.

How do these games work? Do you stop in the line to play them? Does everybody stop? Do people go around them? Wouldn't the money have been better spent on making the ride better?

I'm not sure how exactly these ones work but I found the ones in Sorin' work nicely and when the line of people are waiting there, they all play it. I find it quite fun. Not sure why a line would stay there that long. I bet they will eventually remove them.

The difference is that Soarin does not load continuously. I think the games here could cause problems with the movement of the line.

I'm not going to check out the videos above, before riding it myself. I'm glad for the refurb though. I wish they had gone all out with on-board audio, etc, but at least this is a step in the right direction.

Will look forward to reviews from those who have ridden.

                    O_O

$18.95 for ONE photo?!?!? I thought we were getting shafted at DL for ~$14 a photo! Yikes!

Other than that, it looks like they did a good job updating it. Is the ride any smoother, for those who have been lucky enough to go on it?

Unless they may have changed the way the lines move like in DL.
Like there you be one point, and they would let large groups of guests at an interval, rather than have a constant stream of guests.

Thank you Twins for uploading the POV.Off to the World for the first time this Christmas and taking aboard SM before I do anything else.

And that's why I like Sorin's, but for Sorin' the whole line can participate which is awesome. Also, I could imagine someone controlling whether guests can play the games so when the line gets moving, no one will be able to play them.

And for the record, those videos aren't mine. I think their made by the same people though.

"Nice refresh" does not cut it. This attraction deserved a much better refurbishing. Again, WDW cheats their guests out of a really improved experience. Sad,

As for the games.. oh well, they can only mean one thing: prepare to be stuck in stand by lines for hours on end.. without moving a foot as a million guests are passed in front of you unfairly.

Most of their guests don't go on Space as much as we all do.

I went on it today during testing. I'm going on it again tomorrow. The games were not working. Basically, they were testing the ride, but not the pre-show. The screens all said something about passing training. The ride itself didn't seem to be too bumpy, but the movements are still abrupt. The post-show is much better.

Overall, I like it better compared to before, but I realize it still could be better.

Yeah... i am completely underwhelmed by this "nice refresh". I stand by the exit of Disneyland's Space Mountain and all I hear are the guest talking about how great the experience on that ride was. That really doesn't seem to happen at WDW's.

Someone said the cars were new. I think not. I guess they could be but they look mostly the same. But thats not my issue. It would have been simply to add sound to this attraction, and doing so would have taken it from nice refresh to reinvigorating a classic. I don't understand how the MK could do so well with the HM, and then not see the benefit of doing the same for SM.

I am going with TDLFAN on this one.... the Eagle laid an egg.
