  • [Pictures] Disney's Blizzard Beach - Pictures

My picture threads consist of images I have taken that focus on the architecture, landscape architecture, planning, design, and theming of the facilities highlighted. They may also contain short descriptions and commentary, but will not focus on construction progress or special events or memorabilia or food selections or my traveling companions. Hopefully these threads are a good introduction for those who have not seen these places yet. All killer, no filler!

Disney's Blizzard Beach photographed in November 2008:
Conceived as a freak snowy storm that has brought an arctic landscape to subtropical Florida, this superbly themed water park features a fun hybrid of winter sports details overlaid on a beachy scene of waves and slides.

    Entrance:

    Beach Haus:
This is the gift shop at the entrance.

    Lottawatta Lodge:
This is the main cafe, also near the entrance.

    Concessions:
Various cleverly themed shacks dot the landscape in the park.

    Cross Country Creek:
This gently flowing flume circles most of the park and has numerous entry and exit points. It also enters a long cave beneath Mt. Gushmore.

    Ski Patrol Training Camp:
    The designated pre-teen play area.

    Tike's Peak:
    The designated children's area.

    Melt-Away Bay:
The largest sandy beach area at the park lines this lagoon that has a rocky backdrop from which series of waves emerge.

    Downhill Double Dipper:

    Snow Stormers:

    Toboggan Racers:

    Chairlift:
One of the most inspired scenic features of the park takes riders to the top of Mt. Gushmore where several of the waterslides begin.

    Mt. Gushmore:
The iconic snowy and rocky peak in the center of the park is crowned by a simulated ski jump.

    Summit Plummet and Slush Gusher:
These two adjacent slides originate at the top of Mt. Gushmore and are intense plunges down to the bottom.

    Enjoy!

Awesome! I love the intricate theming, my favorite would definitely be the ski lift.

    Thanks for sharing!

Extremely cool photo essay... I've been meaning to do this myself some (winter) morning to avoid crowds (and avoid looking, er, sleazy) but you've just saved me the trouble. Wonderful!

KevinYee, Please take pictures anyway, I'm missing pictures of Teamboat Springs especially! The day I was there was freezing and uncrowded so it was easy to not look too leacherous while walking around taking pics!

Geomorph, even though I don't comment on all your threads, I love looking at them. They really are wonderful.

On a day like that.. did you do any of the rides?

Coheteboy, yes I went on every slide multiple times, and even braved the river and wave pool! I was cold and shivering but it was my only chance to do it all so I went for it and had fun anyway! I spent the first few hours fully clothed and taking photos, then got changed and put the camera away. I still have never been to Typhoon Lagoon but am looking forward to seeing it in person someday!

Oh my gosh! Thaks for all the awesome photos. Didn't realize Blizzard Beach is so elaborate and colorful. All the slides look fun-tastic! There's cool characters all over the place.

Is the food at the restaurant and other eateries any good. Just love that IC Expeditions name.

Good idea! Wouldn't want your burger to get wet while racing down a flume. The lettuce and pickles might end up in another sliders face. The breakfast bars were a good idea. Bet those that didn't bring then were envious.

Yet another thing we haven't done in FL ... and it's on the to-do list for our next trip (whenever that is).

                        Amazing pictures, thanks for sharing.

For some reason I have a real hard time getting into the theme of Blizzard Beach. I loved Typhoon Lagoon as a kid however. Haven't been back since I was probably 12 though shortly after it opened.

Wow, can't believe that was almost 20 years ago now. I should probably go back.

MODERATOR: Would it be possible to get all of geomorph's photo series on the WDW resorts moved back to the main WDW discussion folder? They add alot of value to this site and won't be found/seen/discussed by many as they are now hidden in the "Orlando Hotel Reviews" section.

                            Much appreciated.

It's quick service, so no sit down restuarants. Great food though!!

Typhoon Lagoon is just as great as Blizzard Beach! My favorite days at this park besides DAK day were the water parks. Fun way to cool down in the Florida heat.

Also, I need to check out Aquatica!
