  • [Question] Your first ever WDW attraction

What was your very first attraction/ride at WDW, and what did you think of it?

I first visited WDW in 1984 when I was 10, and my first attraction was "Mission to Mars" in Tomorrowland. I remember being entertained by it, but also so excited about being at Disney World that it was hard to pay attention.

My first visit was in 1975, and unfortunately I can't remember my first ride. I do remember, however, that my mom was in charge of our tickets (the famous lettered tickets) and when we had a choice between riding Dumbo or seeing the Treehouse, the family voted for Dumbo and mom made us see the Treehouse! ARGH! We still get on her about that to this day! LOL
My guess for a first ride would be Jungle Cruise.

I don't remember exactly. I was 7 and it was 1984. We met my aunt and uncle there who had been there before, so they were sort of showing my family around. I'm guessing it was probably something in Fantasyland, since there were 3 of us kids on the trip.

I do remember that I absolutely loved everything about WDW, and ever since then, I started saying that I wanted to live in Disney World. My parents always laughed, saying, "Aww, isn't that cute..." But when I graduated college, I moved to Orlando, and have been here ever since!

I have no clue what my first attraction was. The earliest I can remember was being about 4 or so or so although I know I went earlier than that. I only truly remember three attractions that really stood out.

Space Mountain: My mother was convinced I'd be terrified of this but I rode this with my dad over and over and over. I kept begging to go back on it again. I remember looking up and thinking how cool it was that I was going to be up there in the dark zooming around and watching the cars zip around.

Haunted Mansion: I only remember two things about this ride. Being terrified when the lights went out in the stretching room and grabbing my dad's leg only to look up when the lights came on to realize I was grabbing some stranger's leg. And my mom explaining to me that the hitchhiking ghosts weren't really ghosts but just a cool little trick and how funny it was. By the time it happened I was ready and laughed at it.

Mission to Mars/The Moon (I don't remember which one it was): At 4, I was convinced that we had actually blasted off. I distinctly remember asking my parents as we came off (Did we really blast off and go up in the sky?) and being terribly disappointed when they told me that we didn't.

Well I dont know the first ride I went on. But I remember the first time I went, it was when I was 5 in 1997 when we had just moved to Orlando. I think that Cinderella's castle was a huge cake with a 25 on the front for the 25th year of WDW. That was really cool to see for a young kid. WOW!! I wish I could see that castle again. http://webpages.charter.net/meathax/castle%2025-2.jpg

My first time at Walt Disney World was in 2004 and It was the train. Fortunately I can take note of it since I could never figure out my first ride at Disneyland.

The Pepto Bismol Castle Cake of Death was the tackiest and most evil thing EVER. I NEVER want to see something that atrocious again. :yuck:

Back on topic, my first visit was March 1977. I think our first ride was PeopleMover.

My first trip was in 1985 ... There were only two parks, and I know we went to the Magic Kingdom first, but can't remember what attraction we did first. I do remember being very impressed with the size of the castle, since Disneyland was the only castle we had seen prior to that.

Haunted Mansion. I also think it is the best ride in WDW.

My first ride was "If You had Wings" in june 1972, simply because it was the first one we happen to go in.. and after all these years.. I still remember how much fun it was, and how enthralled I was with the seagulls flying around as you started the ride..

I went for my first time last December and my first ride was Space Mountain. I was very dissapointed and didn't ride it for the rest of the trip. Now I will have to give it another try next time I am there since the refurbishment.

I just love our DL version so much more!

I don't remember the first but I do have some memories of some gone away.

My favorite as a child was Delta Dream Flight, I used to love that I could travel the world and not leave WDW, I think it helped evolve my love of traveling and adventure.

Journey Into Imagination - The original - I had a plush of Figment as a kid and the song wouldn't leave my head for days.

Monorail - I remember the first time my mother said I could take a round trip alone, for a 10 yr old it was like traveling across the world even though I was just circling the lake.

Contemporary Arcade - The old one is now gone but I still remember my mother giving me $50 and telling me to have a good time. I spent hours playing games when everyone else was too pooped to go the parks.

Superstar Television - I got picked and was a commentator at the end of the David Letterman show.

Oh wow, I completely take back my original post! TDLFAN made me remember... If you Had Wings was my first ride at WDW, too. I remember being enthralled by the omnimover system, and I was singing that song in my head for a long time after we rode it. I loved it! Every time I hear it now it takes me back to my first WDW trip.

While I know it wasn't the first thing I ever rode, that's another one of those that I still have vague memories of as a child. I remember riding it over and over because there was never a line. You could just get right back on and ride again.

I believe the first time I went to WDW was when I was 4. My brother was celebrating his 10th birthday. I remember that. The only thing I can remember from that trip was meeting Mickey and taking a picture with him. I think I slept the majority of my visit unfortunately, so I really don't remember riding anything. Haha!

great thread .... My first visit was in 2003, I first rode on Spaceship Earth and remember being underwhelmed.....because i'd been given the big expectation build up.
2nd attraction was Universe of Energy, I kid you not, I didn't realise I was in a vehicle until it moved and was then amazed.
On this years trip I was reasonably pleased with both attractions..
Smile, you never know who's looking !

Right! I remember when there were no lines for Mickey and it was tricky trying to find him in the park. No wonder he got mobbed! He WAS my 1st celebrity, at least that's how it felt to me when I was a kid. :P

My family took me to the soft opening in 71' and I can remember the Contemporary Resort the most. Being 7 years old and from a little "hick" town in NH, I had never seen anything that even came close to it's enormity and having the Monorail travel through it was absolutely amazing.

On my next visit in 73', like TDLFAN, I was taken with Tomorrowland in general and If You Had Wings specifically. I also have fond memories of Carousel of Progress.

I went to WDW last December and my first ride was the safari ride at Animal Kingdom (cant think of the name, sorry) where you're in the big truck and they drive you around to see all the animals. Out of all the parks, Animal Kingdom was my favorite since I'm a big fan of animals (the bats were AMAZING).
