  • Video Swindon, UK the Twin of WDW's Magic Kingdom? What?

Can someone explain this to me?

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yMaZilyN8M]YouTube - Walt Disney World officially announces its twin town of Swindon, UK at the Magic Kingdom[/ame]

Does anyone have any more information as to what exactly they mean by the township/city of Swindon being the twin to the Magic Kingdom?

BTW, the plaque they showed at the ceremony is said to be at the UK Pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase for the rest of the year for guests to view.

Not much to really tell. They ran a contest for towns to pitch being twinned and the girl who won it for Swindon got a free trip out to the World.

I guess the only other thing they get is to add a line to the Swindon town sign. So it will now read:

    "Twinned with:
Salzgitter, Germany. Ocotal, Nicuaragua. Toruń, Poland. Murcia, Spain. Walt Disney World, USA"

Wish they said something about that in the video.

Any remaining links to this contest or maybe even a transcript of her winning pitch? You know, so I can get a better idea of what this "twinning" thing is all about?

Twin towns and sister cities - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It doesn't really mean much of anything; just really publicity.

I heard rumors of a big Disney Party going on throughout the year with Disney Characters. The rubber heads are already over there. The closests I ever get to my Disneyland UK I think they also planning to have a Disney Parade during christmas!
