  • News Disney Bus Collides with 2 Vans - 4/3/2010

Don't know any details but I heard around noon there was a multiple vehicle accident again that involved a Disney bus today. Hope it wasn't serious and everyone is ok!

Going to check the Florida news stations see if it is being covered there.

    EDIT:

Apparently a Disney bus driver rearend a Chevy SUV at E Buena Vista Dr and World Dr. The SUV then struck the back of a Disney van. No injuries reported, but the bus driver, Frederick Cassens 81, has been charged with careless driving.

Guess the call I got checks out. Luckily there were no injuries, but this incident certainly doesn't help easy concerns of increased frequency of problems at the resort as of lately.

It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.

Well, there was also a recent monorail incident (and it's not like it was the first) and 2 people have died due to the PM in DL. Stuff happens.

On the other hand, an 81 year old bus driver!?!

Both people who died on Disneyland's People Mover didn't die "due to the People Mover," but due to their own foolhardy actions.

In 1967, a 17-year-old slipped as he was jumping from car to car and was crushed to death beneath the wheels of oncoming cars. In 1980, a Grad Nite attendee died in identical fashion while performing the same stunt.

I was about to say the same thing! That fact almost stood out to me more than the accident itself.

The avg. US male life expectancy is around 77 years old. Just to put things into perspective. I know everyone isn't the same but 81 seems a bit old to have extremely quick reactions, be able to save someones life if you are in a crash, respond to any guest needs driving a large bus.

Due to it running over their heads maybe, but, yes, those were both stupid guests tricks, same as the idiot that got killed trying to get in the park by climbing the monorail beam. And obviously, the buses in the recent incidents weren't driving themselves. People, what are ya gonna do, death will find you if he looks hard enough.

I am still in awe that nobody in TDO's Transportation department have received their walking papers.

Regardless of the safety record and percentages, the frequency is getting alarming. Disney needs to take some serious looks at its transportation practices.

Now, to be fair it may very well be that if Disney refused the involved driver, or tried to move him elsewhere, due to his age, they could have opened themselves up to being guilty of age discrimination. The bus drivers are required to a valid commercial license and obviously the state of Florida still considered him to be a competent driver.

Forced Retirement isn't a new topic... and I know WDW relies on the senior population greatly (they tend to be great workers too) but 80 as a commercial driver? I'd be all over that supervisor...
