[Question] No flash pictures, please. We spirits are frightfully sensitive to bright lights.

On a quick trip to MK this weekend, we ended up a few cars behind a shutterbug at the Haunted Mansion. After the flash was constantly going off from the beginning of the ride, somewhere around the floating crystal ball, my temper peaked (after all, it's hard to look at the ballroom scene if the reflection of someone's flash keeps rebounding in your eyes) and I yelled "TURN THAT CAMERA OFF." It, of course, had no effect on the constant pictures, but it did cause a chorus of others shouting at the camera person, which then caused others to shout about the shouting. Not exactly my proudest moment on record there.

So, I ask the collective wisdom: when someone is taking endless flash pictures and blinding you - what's the best response?

I'd also be really mad about that. Is they were next to you the seance room is a great place to lean over and ask them to stop because you guys are facing each other. Shouting is probably bad. If not I'd totally figure out who they were and after you got off catch up to them and let them know that their picture taking ruined the ride for you.

After all the shouting did they stop?

Unfortunately, they were a few cars ahead of us, so there was no opportunity to lean over and ask nicely. And, also unfortunately, no, the shouting didn't stop the pictures, either. In fact, we caught up to them after the ride was over and they were complaining about all the crazy people shouting about the camera's flash. :lol:

I would have said something, but my husband's blood was boiling, and so I figured a hasty exit was a better solution.

Some people are just idiots and don't realize that if everyone's is yelling at them, just MAYBE they're doing something wrong.

Having said that, I may have waited until the seance room and thrown loose change at them.

Look at the bright side - you may not consider it one of your proudest moments but at least you didn't add expletives to the demand. Others may have been tempted to go there.

I just choked on my drink! I LOVE the loose change idea - if nobody says anything, they wouldn't have a clue where it came from. Unfortunately, some people are that inconsiderate and "in their own world" that they need to literally be hit in the head with something or be put in physical pain to get the point. Talk about negative reinforcement.

I would bet they probably don't speak english, it is a common problem with a lot of attractions.

On a separate note, I was awakened to some sort of crashing sound in my apartment this morning, snapped some pictures and still trying to figure this one out.

The first picture was taken, on the LCD screen on my camera I saw the red mark. I took the second picture ~ 5 seconds later and I tried to get the same angle to see if it was anything like a reflection or anything of that nature. Note I had left all lights in the apartment off, only lighting is the flash. To make it on-topic, I believe this is proof that spirits are sensitive to bright lights =P

I would bet they probably don't speak english, it is a common problem with a lot of attractions.

It's usually either that or someone who's too ignorant to realize when someone keeps telling telling them to stop taking flash pictures that they're referring to them.

I dont have advice but I do have a similar story.

I was watching the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show with a friend and somebody on the far left side of the audience kept taking flash pictures. Then I heard someone shout out "no flash pictures please" during the 'Part of the World' number. I believe it was a cast member which really upsets me because if it was a cast member then this was very unprofessional! I mean really. Shouting at an audience member during a slow musical number of all things? Was she REALLY that lazy to walk all the way around to the opposite side of the auditorium and address the person without disrupting the show like a real usher would do?

Needless to say it was already a sucky show (the lady playing Ariel was having problems keeping up with the beat) so I wasnt that bothered but still I was with a friend who had never seen the show and add unprofessional cast member in the mix, it wasnt a grand experience for everyone else seeing this show for the first time.

Several times on our last trip this happened. We were in front of a flasher who was across the way in the Leota scene. I just shouted "NO FLASH."

I don't even know why people take flash pictures on dark rides, they come out looking like crap anyway.

I can empathize with you about flashes being a nuisance, but hearing constant shouts from various doom buggies also ruins the experience for many others (including some who are too far from the flash) and not just that of the offending photographers. I've been in that situation and was more annoyed by the shouts than the flashes. I understand why you did it, but remember the old saying two wrongs don't make a right. I think the CM should be a more proactive in deterring the flashes which have been increasing in recent years.

So much fun. I can just hear it now. "NO FLASH!" Spanish: "NO FLASHO!" Russian: "NO vFLASHk!" go through the world showcase and ask the employees of the different pavilions how to say "NO FLASH" in their native language. That'd be fun!

I can't believe someone wouldn't realize it was them who was being yelled at...

When I rode Grand Fiesta Tour (one of my favorites,) I touched the carpeted walk on the side of the canal while waiting to disembark and I was mortified when I got yelled at by the cast member down the river. Maybe that's just because I'm a teenager.

Problem is most of them do not realize they will not come out or that the flash will wash out the effects. That or they don't know how to use the camera...

You would be surprised by how many folks just use the default automatic out of the box settings on their cameras and have no idea what the different modes are or mean or how to change them. They may not realize they are doing it or even how to turn it off or get it to "stop doing that". It's not like the old days where you had to turn on the flash and wait for the capacitor to charge up or swap out the flash bulb or flash cube/bar to get it to work, most digital cameras use the flash more often than not unless your out in the sun. :ap:

I can't remember, do the CM actually say (or a recording) "No flash photography?" If no one makes that announcement, then you can't assume that people will know not to do it.

I can't remember what ride this was in, but I do remember there was a person in front of us who was a flash addict. I heard a loudspeaker or something tell the person that there was to be no flash photography. I remember this because I was pretty freaked out about it...

I assume they do that though...

And whomever posted the creepy red dot pictures, I will now not be able to sleep tonight. Ick... That is very very creepy...

It's in the ride spiel, pre recorded, "And No flash photography, please. We spirits are frightfully sensitive to bright lights." it's a sterner disembodied voice by the ghost host.

Yup if the line is long just complain to a CM that someone was using a flash and you missed half the ride, they will often escort you back to the loading area and let you re-ride. They are usually pretty good about that.
