dmtnt55 presents: Walt Disney World - My First Time (A Trip Report)

    How Things Will Work:
I will make 1 post every day on this thread with a trip report from a day of my trip. Ask me if you have any questions.

    What This Is:
A trip report from my vacation.
    July 21st-27th
    Boardwalk Inn
    Walt Disney World Resort
    Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

    Introduction:
First things first, I'm a Disneyland guy. I lived on the west coast, which meant living close to Disneyland meant going to Disneyland a lot. You then study a map and notice how far Disneyland and Walt Disney World are apart from each other. Far distance means far travel. Far travel...well it usually means far wallet, or spending a ton of money to travel coast to coast. But after many trips to Disneyland, my fandom of Disney really built up. Well, it built up to the point where I started collecting merchandise, and anytime I spend money, I spend money on something I really like, in this case, Disney. So this fandom built up so much that I finally convinced my family that it was time to make a trip to Walt Disney World. After a long time toying with plans, itineraries, and reservations, we were set to go to our first trip.

So, I hope you follow along as I bring you some fun and some photos from my first trip!

    Day 1 - July 21st, 2010, Getting there + Some DHS
    Day 2 - July 22nd, 2010, Magic Kingdom + DHS
    Day 3 - July 23rd, 2010, EPCOT

I loooove the Boardwalk, by the way. I stayed there this past December, it's soooo nice!

O I can't wait for more. ! Boardwalk and Y&B tempt me to reconsider staying at the WL.
What time did you get to DHS? Did you eat anywhere beforehand?
Hoping to raise enough money to go to DL from Pennsylvania with my wife for our 5 year anniversary. (We went there on our honeymoon!)

If you would like to contribute to the cause for a relatively poor private school teacher. Please private message me. I'd be very thankful.

Wait, what were you doing for tickets? You burned a whole day's ticket on one ride at DHS?

Re: First Time Ever To WDW - A Trip Report

Good to see all of you here!

Now to the first full day of our trip

                        July 22nd, 2010

Waking up in Disney World was awesome! Our room had a decent view, as you could see the Eiffel Tower in France at Epcot, and some other random little sights. So the first day was the day for Magic Kingdom in the morning and some DHS later in the day.

So MK opened at 9:00, and we wanted to be first in line at the turnstile (which we were), as we arrived at about 8:20.

They started letting us in at about 8:40, but we were stopped at the tunnel. At about 9, Mickey and friends came from the train, and they finally let us into the park! We went straight to Fantasyland.

Mad Tea Party + Roof = Lame.

                        it's a small world facade + indoors = lame.

After Fantasyland, we hit up some Frontierland and Liberty Square stuff.

I really do love The Haunted Mansion here!

So that was that for Magic Kingdom for the day. (We were coming back to do everything else on Saturday). We left the park when all the crowds started piling in, at about 2 o' clock.

                        A wonderful view

So, we got back to the Boardwalk at around 2:30 and decided to take a little break. After the break we headed over to hit up some DHS stuff then go to our 5:45 dining reservation at the Sci Fi Dine In

I loved the atmosphere here, but the food and prices weren't anything to celebrate.

So after dinner (we stayed there for a goof hour and a half to watch the movies and talk a little bit), we went on some more DHS stuff, then took the hefty 10 minute walk back to the Boardwalk. We got back to the Boardwalk at around 8:30. We then called it a night, as we had a big day of EPCOT in front of us tomorrow!

                        To be continued...

I agree that the roof over the tea cups and indoors small world facade isn't as cool as the respective DL versions, but that's because the Orlando weather is lame. It rains a lot in central FL, not so much in SoCal. Hence the abundance of weather protection at WDW that DL doesn't have or need. It may not look as nice, but from a practical standpoint it's more or less a necessity.
I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to its possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits. For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours. I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds.

They didn't seem faster to me, but probably because I was too hot to put in a lot of effort to spin

Very well said, as a Cast Member told me as well, too much rain.

                                    July 23rd

Ok so after a fun day at Magic Kingdom and DHS yesterday, this would be the day for EPCOT, which we would be our first full day at a park. Staying at the Boardwalk is PERFECT for EPCOT, as we took a quick, 5-8 minute walk to the International Gateway entrance over between UK and France. We were going for park opening of course, which was 9, so we got to the turnstyle at 8:40, pleasantly surprised by the small crowd waiting to get in. We then went into EPCOT a few minutes after arriving at the gate at about 8:50, and walked from the World Showcase all the way over to Future World, where we were greeted by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto. At 9:00, they let the rope down, and Epcot was open. Straight to The Land for Soarin'!

                                    A view from World Showcase:

After a tough time battling through swarms of crowds (as, if you didn't know, Soarin' is without question the most popular ride at Epcot, and people stomp to The Land right at park opening), we were finally in The Land. Let me tell you first off here, I absolutely LOVE the land. It houses my favorite attraction at Epcot (Soarin'), and many other fun things, such as the entertational boat voyage, Living With The Land. Also, I just love the smell in here. It smells like, well, The Land, as the Sunshine Seasons food court uses many vegetables and fruits that make the whole pavilion smell like a giant garden that you just want to take a bite of. Ahem. Pardon my moment there, back to Soarin'. After trumping through thick crowd, we finally made it to Soarin'. We sent my mom to get fastpasses for later, and hopped in the easy, 10 minute standby.

Ah, yes. One of Epcot's finest:

We walked through a large amount of the line, before stopping in a cool, wavy blue part of the queue.

The Epcot queue beats DCA's by a mile:

So, after a great time on Soarin', we rode Living With The Land, stopped for a quick 9:30 snack at Sunshine Seasons, and headed to The Seas to ride Nemo and check out some fun aquarium type exhibits.

                                    The Seas:

The dark ride was...interesting. I prefer the subs at Disneyland, personally. But at the end of this ride, you could see projections of Finding Nemo characters in the water with real fish, which was definitely awesome. So, after riding that we checked out some other cool things at The Seas. It is kind of like a Disney aquarium.

Seahorses are kinda creepy if you get really close xP:

                                    Cool little guy:

So, The Seas was pretty good. But after spending some time there, we walked over to ride Spaceship Earth.

Man, this thing is WAY bigger in real life:

A Cast Member told me there is roughly 1,000 of these triangle panels:

Honestly didn't know too much about this attraction going in:

This scene in Spaceship Earth had me speechless, no idea why as it was practically just a giant planetarium. Cool nonetheless:

Wow, Spaceship Earth was really good, definitely a hidden gem. It is definitely in my Top 5 Epcot attractions. The scene at the top of it with the stars is just incredible! Anyway, after a ride on that, it was time to hit up some World Showcase stuff, as we tried hitting up Test Track, but the line was crazy and we had a Soarin' fastpass for later.

We went to the left of World Showcase, and rode the Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico. I actually kind of enjoyed this attraction, as the beginning scene kind of reminded me of Pirates at Disneyland, with the San Angel Inn Restaurant to the right. After some fun in Mexico, we went to Norway for Maelstrom!

                                    A High Seas Norwegian Adventure:

Maelstrom was decent in my opinion. There were some cool scenes, and a couple of tiny drops, and the Oil Rig in the North Sea was kinda cool.

This is for Wumbology, and it is the indoor village at the end of the attraction, leading into the 5 minute movie on Norway (which wasn't playing at the time).

Turned out bad, but I tried, Wumbo :

So after that we leisurely walked up World Showcase, stopping at shops and whatnot, back to the International Gateway to get some lunch at the Boardwalk.

                                    China looked legit:

                                    I think this was Morocco:

Looking over the lagoon to France:

After exiting Epcot, we took a very short walk to have some lunch at the ESPN Club, which was solid:

We then headed back to the hotel for a short hour or so of swimming, and after relaxing a little bit, it was time to head back to Epcot for more attractions and Illuminations!

Club Cool is so tight, I love free pop! (and the Chinese Smart Watermelon flavor was scrumptious! ):

The Fountain of Nations is very cool, especially at night, and this thing can really get you wet:

After drinking some stuff at Club Cool, we then made a risky move and decided to go ride Journey Into Imagination! With Figment at the Imagination! pavilion. Yikes.

I just...didn't really like this ride. Really the only Epcot attraction I didn't like:

So, we got out of Figment at about 8:20, and had some time to kill before the 9 o'clock showing of Illuminations. One more ride on Spaceship Earth? Sounds good to me

                                    Scientist in the lab:

                                    Building My Future:

So, after riding Spaceship Earth it was about 8:45, so we walked to find a spot to see Illuminations. We ended up watching it from around France, just to the right of the bridge to the International Gateway. Not a great view, but not too bad either.

                                    Reflections of Earth:

Illuminations was quite cool, and the globe floating the lagoon was awesome! I'll bring some video of Illuminations a little bit later.

So after that, we went to the World Traders store by the International Gateway exit, and then after that, headed out of the park, and walked back to the Boardwalk Inn after a great day of Epcot.

Tomorrow: Magic Kingdom Full Day + Main Street Electrical Parade and Fireworks.
