  • What exactly is a "soft opening" and how does one get to try one?

Actually, I have a rough idea what a soft opening is - it's where a few guests can take a test ride on a new attraction. Right? How, as a guest, can I get a chance to try a soft opening? Are people picked at random? Is it that the ride is open only at certain times of the day, and if you're lucky enough to walk by at the right time and ask nice, you get a chance?

I keep hearing how E:E will have soft openings as early as January and seeing as I'm going to be there in February, I'd love to get a chance to try the ride then.

    Thanks in advance!

It's usually just right place at the right time... find out when a soft opening will be happening, get there when it happens.

I've only been to one: Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Play it! at Disney-MGM. The glass floor was very clean back then -- nearly tripped on what I thought to be an open space!

Actually .. the way a "soft opening" works .........

The ride is basically done .......

        it's operable ....

but they want to do "test runs" to make sure everything is in proper order.

And at any given time .. Disney can shut it down to do "whatever".

I remember Space Mountain opening up in mid April 1977. But it's "OFFICIAL" opening was not till May 27,1977. See ... after so many weeks of minor tweeking .. It's then COMPLETELY ready ... thus ... they can have it open 100% of the time (by then).

And you never know when a "soft opening" is going to happen. It's random ... you just have to be sticking around the ride ....... and they could open the gate in a moment's notice.

It's that random. And no .. they don't "select" people ...... It's either open to everyone .. or it's not at all.

            Thanks for the info, guys!

See how things go when we're out there. If I get a chance to ride E:E, I'll post a short review here (no spoilers though!)

Just keep in mind, usually if you ask, they will make a point of it to say no.

It's also an excuse for them to train the CMs with guests at a slower pace and if something happens, it's okay... because the attraction isn't supposed to be open anyway! So, therefore it is okay.

Pacha - be sure to remind me again before you go on your trip.

Pacha, I gotta ask, at the risk of revealing my Star Trek geek status - is your sig a clip from some actual show, movie or skit? Or is it a Photo Shop remake? Either way, funny!
