  • [Question] why the white yeti and not the brown version

While at AK I noticed that all merchandising for expedition Everest. Sold the westernized white yetis instead of the brown yeti which the imaginers worked so hardly on to make it more beleivable.they even discribe the yeti as the abominable snowman on the map. They should start to sell the brown/rust colored blue faced version for merchandising, instead of the goofy white version

ORGOCH: So we came up with the same answer them dang bean counters has fer ev'rything! It costs too much money! Folks'll have ta be happy with just ONE dang yeti an' any die hard fans out there who's clammerin' fer a brown yeti just has ta git over 'emselves!!

Bingo. Team Disney Orlando cost management at work: the plush is just the one made for the Matterhorn gift shop at Disneyland. Disney even has two pins with identical designs and yetis, except that one says "Matterhorn" and the other "Everest":

Re: why the white yeti and not the brown version

I always kinda figured it was because when a person thinks Abominable Snowman, they assume that he would be white. It doesn't really make sense, but it holds true. So the merchandise shops and tourist happy areas at the base of the mountain, which in the story do not know that the yeti is real, use the more fantasy based white version. Its similar to how we make dinosaurs look cartoony at times even when they did not look very goofy at the time.

Of course, I know the real reason is to save money, but at least it makes sense in my mind...

Re: why the white yeti and not the brown version

I kinda like to think that the merch sharing is just a perk and they thought far enough to consider that most people see the yeti (abominale snowman) as a white thingy. Bigfoot is brown though, and if both where brown it would be confusing to people like my ex-wife...
