  • [Fun] A "WHAT IF..."? scenario (Alien Encounter, Stitch, and the Tiki Room)

Here's a little "WHAT IF...?" question for fun. What would have happened back in 2004 if we had gotten a Stitch Tiki Room instead of Stitch's Great Escape (Something along the lines of this mock-up of it I wrote, but with better writing of course:
    Tiki Room:Aloha E Komo Mai, Lilo & Stitch!, a lilo & stitch fanfic - FanFiction.Net )?

*WOULD a Stitch Tiki Room have been better received if it had replaced Under New Management in 2004?

*WOULD Stitch have the same negative reputation he has among the WDW fanbase?

*WOULD Alien Encounter still be around today, or would it have been replaced by a new attraction by now?

*Having Stitch in the Tiki Room in 2004 would have most likely led to a huge increase in attendance for it. However, WOULD the attendance figures hold up today, or would the attendance eventually drop off to the same low numbers that it usually suffers from?

I think a great deal would depend on if it was actually a good show. The biggest part of "Under New Descration" was that the show stunk. It was not enjoyable. If it had beena good show and people liked it, it would still be around.

Yeah, it all depends on execution. The worst part about Under New Management, for me, was that the show (and more specifically, Iago) basically mocked the original show, which to me felt that like they were criticizing classic Disney. So if Stitch had trash-talked the original show as part of its makeover, then no, it would be just as bad as UNM.

Many people don't realize (or forget) that Lilo & Stitch is actually a very charming and touching movie - a little quirky, but still brimming with Disney heart, and very popular with critics. The problem with Stitch's Great Escape is that the show doesn't focus on those aspects at all, preferring to instead be more crude and obnoxious than the movie ever was. If Disney could combine the classic charm of the Enchanted Tiki Room with the sentimentality of Lilo & Stitch, then yeah, it might just work, and Stitch might have spared the unfortunate reputation he has with many WDW guests today.

So like I said, it all depends on the execution. As for Alien Encounter, I'm betting it would be gone by now anyway - I doubt it was the arrival of Stitch that led to the show's closure.

Well put. You know that fanfic mockup script for my vision of a Stitch Tiki Room I linked to in the first post? That's pretty much what I focused on when I wrote it. I never really liked the obnoxious, sci-fi side of Stitch, instead I enjoyed the series when it focused more on the Hawaiian aspects and Lilo and Stitch's friendship, like they did in Stitch Has a Glitch. That was sort of the point in me writing the Stitch Tiki Room in the first place; I wanted an attraction that focused on L&S's bond with each other instead of Stitch's obnoxious gross out humor and I felt the tranquility of the Tiki Room was a good place for it.
