  • News Free WiFi now at most WDW resorts

According to WDWmagic, most of the Deluxe and DVC resorts on property will begin providing free, in-room WiFi access starting today. There is some speculation that this has to do with the upcoming implementation of the "NextGen" technology, which will likely require frequent internet access when planning a WDW vacation.

The complete list of resorts receiving WiFi is below:

    Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
    Disney’s Beach Club Resort
    Disney’s BoardWalk Resort
    Disney’s Contemporary Resort
    Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
    Disney’s Old Key West Resort
    Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
    Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort
    Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

About time... maybe some good will come from NextGen after all.

Probably the only good thing coming from Next Gen and it's not in All Stars. Nice...

Yeah none of the "value" or "moderate" resorts are on that list. Too bad. I can pay a lot less money for a comparable hotel nearby and get free wifi and free hot breakfast included.

Is Coronado Springs still a moderate hotel? I stayed there in 2007.

I know there have been a lot of changes at WDW since I last visited in 2009.

Coronado is still a moderate, however it's been one of the large convention hotels so it gets special status.

CSR is moderate + $5. Its an extra $5 a night over the other mods because of the amenities.

ALRIGHT! We're visiting in the middle of November, and "Will I be able to tether the laptop through the OG Droid running Cyanogenmod 7.1" is one less thing I don't need to worry about.

They keep calling the GF a Resort & Spa, though. IIRC the Spa is closing up...

I've heard rumors that Contemporary(and likely some others) wifi has been free for a while now if you're on verizon. Or at least signal strength was really good because of the walkie talkie system they're using. Any truth?

And would just would like to point out again that it took until the end of October 2011 to get wifi in some of these WDW hotels and likely it was only because of a separately budgeted initiative.

^ Agreed on Port Orleans. I'm hearing rumors that this is just a gradual process, and other resorts may be added soon. One would think that if Coronado Springs (a moderate) is getting free wifi, Disney would want the other moderates to remain competitive with it.

Why on earth is there an FAQ about what provider you're using? Wi-Fi has absolutely nothing to do with your cellphone service provider. Do they take us for idiots?!

Yes but remember that a lot of what CSR does is not to compete with the other mods, it does it to stay competitive with other convention resorts.

I heard that the other mods and values will have it within 6 months.

I say it took Disney long enough. To think that Disney was holding back on free wireless cause they thought guests were spending too much times in their rooms and not enough time in the parks. :P So far, one upside to this NextGen stuff. Even if it is just for the upper level resorts right now, something is better than nothing.
