  • [Fun] Abbey Road Wallpaper: Mickey & Friends Salute To Beatles 50th Anniversary

Disney Parks Blog is featuring a wallpaper tribute to the 50th aniversary of the Beatles that places Mickey Pluto, Donald and Goofy on a mock Abbey Road album cover. The fact that Main Street U.S.A. is used instead of Abby Road (with the castle in the background) creates an element of zanyness! Here is a link to the DPG wallpaper page:

    Herbie needs a "28IF" license plate. :-)

I was also going to say that Donald/Paul needs to be bare footed, them I realized he IS barefoot.

Note that they even have bystanders in the background more or less in the right spots.

    Thanks for the link!

Boy! i didn't motice that Disney had gone to the trouble to detail in the bystanders. Somebody there has a sense of hymor in the extreme.

Donald/Paul isn't the only one that is barefoot; so is Pluto/Ringo. Does this symbolize that both Donald and Pluto have passed away, even though Paul and Ringo are the only two Beatles that have survived? Quite curious this....

I think it appropriate too rmember the barefooted Donald and Pluto who have apparently went to toon heaven:

A Day In The Life Of Toons

I read the DPG news today oh, boy
About a lucky toon who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh
      I saw the photoshopped photograph
They blew their ink out in a car
They didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of park guests stood and stared
      They'd seen their faces before
Nobody was really sure if they were from the houses of Pluto/Ringo and Donald/Paul

I saw a Disney film today oh, boy
The WDI army had just won the theme park war
A crowd of Magic Kingdom guests turned away
But I just had to look
      Having read the ccmic book
I'd love to toon you on

Woke up, fell out of my Disney's Pop Century Hotel bed
Dragged a Little Mermaid comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, I noticed I was late
Found my Avengers shirt and grabbed my Mickey ears hat
Made the Monorail in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and choked down a churro
And somebody spoked and I boarded the Disney Dream
      Ah

I read the DPB news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in duckburn, lassetershire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Know how many holes it takes to bring down a backstage wall
I'd love to toon you on

I'm not comfortable with promoting Disney's copyright violation of Apple Records intellectual property rights.

It's not parody. It's not satire. It's not for educational purposes.

If Disney is going to play copyright hardball, then they shouldn't be hypocritical and engage in the same acts.

Disney's use of the Abbey Road-like depiction in their salute to the Beatles' 50th is indeed a parody in much the same vein as Mad Magazine humor, and National Lampoon's mock humor in it''s magazine and movies, This type of satire is also featured in Saturday Night Live, and Jay Leno skits, as well as cartoon paradies that have appeared in various newspapers since the beginning of time. I would imagine that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr would appreciate the hard-earned recognition of their group's 50th, and probably would roll over with laughter at the Disney Parks Blog goofy album cover..

Pluto is barefoot because he's a dog.

The only one who is barefoot in the original shot is Paul. Nice that they went to the detail that they did with the VW, Pauls opposite feet and the bystanders.

Hope this doesn't mean there will be "Donald is Dead" rumors now.

This is a tribute to the Beatles, not some money-making thing. I think it's clever and somebody at Disney is obviously a Beatles fan.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but this isn't the first time Disney has incorporated something Beatles into something.

You're right! They have the details down to Donald mimicking Paul's walking on opposite feet to the others. Since Pluto enjoys walking on two feet....er, paws, he really should consider buying a pair of shoes. Surely Disney pays him a high enuff salary to do so. It's just ot dig-nified.

Is Donald dead? Oh no! Say it isn't so!

Given the requirements of "Fair-Use" under US Copyright law, which of the following categories would you suggest the potentially infringing image would fall under: criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research?

And why would it fall under the suggested category? If you say it falls under 'criticism', tell me exactly what point is being made, and how it's being made.

That is awesome. Thanks for sharing. I would love to see more of the album covers. I picture Yellow Submarine with one of the Nemo subs,or Sgt Pepper with all the characters in costume.
"Greetings, Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada."

Yeah. That would be some hilarious satire to do some Sargent Pepper "Beatles" appearances at one of the yellow subs. They could even sing "We all live in a Nemo Submarine....
