  • [Question] Which Resort Hotel has the best Trasportation System?

Which resort hotel has the best and most convenient transportation service?

  • #2
Re: Which Resort Hotel has the best Trasportation System?

There's no denying the ease of use of the hotels found on the monorail loop, the Magic Kingdom hotels. However, those also tend to be the most expensive.

Honestly, I've never had a problem with any and transportation. I just know it will take a while, and I may have to wait a bit.
however, I'd think the Polynesian would have the most convenient, since it's on the monorail loop, and also waking distance from the TTC, and the boat dock.

Honestly, you're going to have a trade-off no matter where you stay if you're relying solely on resort transportation.

Contemporary is by far the most convenient for Magic Kingdom, and is the best resort if you want to take the monorail to Epcot (my personal preferred method of arriving in Epcot), but you have to share bus service with the other two monorail resorts to reach DHS or DAK.

Epcot and DHS are both walkable from Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan, and Dolphin, but if you're going to any other location from any of those resorts, you'll be sharing bus service with at least one other resort.

Downtown Disney is walkable from Saratoga Springs.

DAK isn't walkable (or accessible by anything but bus) from anywhere.

This is why I prefer to rent a car when I visit. All things considered, the monorail resorts are probably the most convenient (especially if you're renting a car, because convenience-wise, the MK is the worst park to have to park at).
I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to its possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits. For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours. I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds.

The Polynesian. It's on the monorail loop and has boats going to the Magic Kingdom, and it's is close to (walking distance from) the monorail to EPCOT.

If transportation were my biggest concern I'd rent a car, in which case you could stay at any of the resorts. We enjoyed having a rental car when we stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Then again, with Disney's Magical Express service you can take free busses to and from the Orlando Airport and WDW, so you wouldn't need a rental car. Also keep in mind that you can have groceries delivered to your room at most WDW resorts, which might be another reason to not rent a car.

Pop Century had it's own individual busses, IIRC.

However, I imagine it's not as easy now with AoA

I wonder too. Does anyone know if the Pop Century bus shares stops at Art of Animation now?

Amazingly, they each have their own bus routes - at least, as of a couple weeks ago they were not sharing.

AoA and Pop are not sharing busses, and probably never will.

The most expensive that Disney offers.

Let me explain. The last time I went to WDW, I stayed mostly at a Villa, but I ended up spending my last night at a moderate. I can tell you that the buses leaving the villa to the parks were in far better shape than the buses leaving the moderate to the parks. Disney drops the quality of its transportation system based on how much the guests are paying for their rooms. Sad, but true.

Either the Polynesian with it's own boats and monorail to the Magic Kingdom while being within walking distance to the Transportation & Ticket Center with express monorails to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Or any of the resorts on the lake between Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios. If you're a park hopper and don't mind walking through Epcot you can get to every park except the Animal Kingdom without setting foot on a bus. The boat ride from Epcot to the Studios is about 20 minutes but it 's a nice ride with way better sights than the flat Florida freeways.

IIRC, The Poly shares boats with the Grand Floridian... MK Dock -> GF -> Poly -> MK Dock...

i would choose the contemporary. it's the first monorail stop after the magic kingdom; and the transportation center is the first stop when you get on the monorail from the contemporary, so you get quick access to the epcot monorail. Walking to the MK takes less than 10 minutes as well.

Do you know the bus routes for the Hotels? Which ones have the most stops, or the fewest?

I seem to recall that Port Orleans Riverside, went straight from the hotel to the Park.

CSR has very good bus transportation. No sharing with other resorts and only 4 stops. Very quick rides to AK, DHS and Epcot.

In my opinion the Beach Club is the best for transportation. you are right next door to Epcot, a 15 minute walk or a 30 minute boat ride from DHS, you can access the monorail to MK with a 10 minute walk through Epcot, and your about an average distance from DAK so the bus ride isn't too bad. Ive also found that the Beach club busses are the most consistently on time and least packed on average out of the rest of the resorts ive stayed at.

I've never (well close to never) had any problems with the transportation system. We are DVC and always stay at Old Key West. The buses come every 20 minutes, you can set your watch by them. For example last week we used the Pensular stop and buses were there on the hour, 20 minutes after, and 40 minutes after.

I have never rented a car at WDW. WhenI am on vacation I want to be on vacation, not driving from place to place. Also when on the bus we frequently strike up a conversation with fellow riders and it is an enjoyable time. If I want to go somewhere that is inconvenient or not accessible by bus (like going to church) I take a taxi.

When we go to CA Grill we frequently go to Downtown Disney after dinner and the bus service at the Contemporary is frequently very few and far between for DtD and the bus is shared with the Poly and GF. At OKW the DtD bus arrives every 20 minutes and there is also a direct boat to DtD.

It looks like it all depends on where you want to go as to who has the best service. But it looks like the All Stars have the most crowded (from what I have observed at the Epcot stops)

I also stayed at port Orleans riverside and after a day you have the bus system down and there was really no wait. We met friends for dinner at the polenisian and had to catch the monorail at MK and waited at least a half hour in line to get on the monorail.
