[Rumor] wishful thinking..................or not?

so here, layed out before you, is my web of conspiracy (probably consisting of mainly of wishful thinking).....................




as many of you know, the internet is abuzz with rumors about possible changescoming to DHS. For many of us, when we think of anything happening to that park............we start with the hat. That symbol of tackiness that currently sits smack dab in front of what should be the best view in the park. The artificial park symbol that has nothing to do with its surroundings. could there be aremoval of the hat in our future?

And if anything where to happen to the hat (I say that with a little to much eagerness), what would be the symbol for this park? well, the obvious choice is the tower that served that purpose for many years.

so let me explain. I have been reading many rumors about the possible changes. They range anywhere from a copy of Carsland to a whole park refurb. I take many of these with a rather large grain of salt, but shortly after reading a rather ambitious rumer the other day; I got my pre-trip mailing from WDW. Now this was a new one, not the old monorail one I had seen for a couple of past trips. That being the case I went through this mailing excitedly. Had I not been thinking about the rumors, I probably would have skipped right over this image on the inside cover

The Earful Tower used to be the park icon but it was given to Walt Disney Studios Paris instead. To be honest, I think it's unlikely that it will ever be the DHS park icon ever again. I do hope the new icon is the Chinese Theater since it's already right there in the center location.

With the debut of Buena Vista street I suspect DHS is going to ditch the hat. I was one of those who at one time always thought that the hat would never leave but it looks like the removal of the hat would serve a new "buena vista" type purpose.

I suspect DHS to get a major "main street" redo with the theatre as the focal point. I fear that the ride in that theatre is going to get a major upgrade and redo. The new ride to have people lining up and down the "new" streets.

The hat is a freakin' pin shop. I think no one will miss it. But to ever see pictures of it broken up in a land fill would for some reason break my heart.

I've heard it suggested on this very site that perhaps the hat could be moved to Downtown Disney for a happy retirement.

They posted the earful tower's hat size, hmmm... Maybe they're going to put the hat on the tower.

I don't actually think that will happen but it reminds me of back in the old days in the 90s when the Orlando Magic made the playoffs and the Earful Tower was sporting a pair of Horace Grant goggles.

That is an interesting convergence of events, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much... The Earful Tower has been used interchangeably with the hat on promotional material since the hat debuted. For the past decade or so, every once in a while someone would point out where the Earful Tower was being used on an official web site or promotional flyer in the hopes that it meant the hat was coming down. Obviously, the hat is still there.

But one can hope...

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the team that puts together the creative and marketing materials for the Walt Disney Travel Company, have no connection to Imagineering, or Team Disney Orlando where future resort plans are being made.

They would only officially change icon in official collateral if there was an official announcement.

So then "why is the earful tower here?"

my guess
1. the Designer who made it snuck it past the marketing team
2. The hat's outline in etch-a-sketch was unrecognizable and there for required a different image be used.

That is a pretty good idea. It would be much better that it being at DHS blocking the best view in the park. But I agree with the idea that DHS will go under a major refurbishment because then it will attract more people but I would rather see it when Disney has the theme park rights in Florida so they can put Marvel in DHS.

Off topic, but that may never happen. There is no expiration or renegotiation built into the contract between Universal and Marvel. The only option is for Marvel to buy out Universal, which would likely be astronomically expensive.
