Just booked two nights at the contemporary resort for the last weekend of food and wine. I'm so freaking excited, or at least I was. While trying to find more pics of the resort to drool over I came across quite a few reviews saying its dirty and rundown. Are these people crazy? Or should I prepare to be dissapointed? Thanks in advance!

Re: Contemporarily confused
I'm gonna be there that same weekend! haha. But, I wouldn't listen to those reviews. I stayed there a little bit less than a year ago, and it was clean! I loved the resort. The best thing is that you think the monorail would be noisy but you dont hear it, we stayed right near it and it was perfect! You're gonna have a great time, don't listen to a few bad reviews, WDW has a standard and they stick to it

Re: Contemporarily confused
I've only stayed at the Contemporary once and that was in the main building, and it was for one night haha. But, my mom has stayed in the garden wing, she said she liked it just as much as the main building. As for decor, I'm not sure. I dont really even remember much about when I stayed there. Have you been to the food and wine festival before?

Re: Contemporarily confused
Well here is the thing:
The contemporary has received some great refurbishments in the past few years. The decor was updated, and improved.
That being said, if you are used to 4 Diamond amenities, and atmosphere, you will not really get that there. Some things that people find charming others find... not
The monorail going through the hotel either excites you or turns you off.
The loudness of the concourse floor with Chef Mickeys' the monorail, the kids, the stores, etc can really seem a bit pedestrian.
The giant mural by Mary Blair is an amazing piece of art, one that I hope Disney preserves and cherishes. However, because of it's colors and styling to some people they feel it adds a dated feeling to the property.
The concrete on the exterior is kind of unforgiving in the fact that it isn't super attractive after all these years.
That being said this is a great property. If you are looking for a Waldorff or Ritz, you should stay at those places instead.
If you are looking for a great comfortable property with monorail access, some great amenities, and great atmosphere, then this is your hotel.Get the latest and greatest theme park news by

Re: Contemporarily confused
KingEric more or less nailed it. Is The Contemporary everything it could be and should be? Not by a long shot. Have the standards of The Contemporary declined since its opening in 1971 when it was the flagship resort of WDW? Absolutely. Is The Contemporary "dirty and rundown?" No. Maybe a little dirty in spots (the monorail beam comes to mind) but certainly not rundown or pervasively dirty. I think you'll have a wonderful time. I've stayed at almost every resort on property and The Contemporary is definitely among my favorites.Last edited by PSUMark; 08-29-2012, 10:59 AM.I knew if this business was ever to get anywhere, if this business was ever to grow, it could never do it by having to answer to someone unsympathetic to its possibilities, by having to answer to someone with only one thought or interest, namely profits. For my idea of how to make profits has differed greatly from those who generally control businesses such as ours. I have blind faith in the policy that quality, tempered with good judgment and showmanship, will win against all odds.

To clarify Disneys contemporary resort is a AAA Four Diamond resort. I've stayed at the contemporary many times in the tower and have never found the resort to be unclean. As far as noise in the tower goes The only time we heard noise from the room was when they were performing the celebration song at chef mickeys. And the noise was minimum at that. Contemporary should be tried at least once by all Disney fans. is it my favorite place to stay ... no but nothing beats the view and the monorail going through the building. Have a great time!
