  • News Test Track to Reopen December 6 at Epcot Center

    From Disney Parks Blog:

So it looks as if it is going to reopen around the same time New Fantayland is set to open.
Met Anna and Elsa over 1100 times and not afraid to admit it. Just let it go

Great news! I'm happy that it will be open when we arrive on the 10th!

Bummer. This lowers my expectations. Closed for only 7 months and a few days, I worry about changed experience being a next gen que and a ride with lots of black light 2 dimensional plywood cutouts. I was kind of hoping for they would be delayed due to the complexity of the enhancements. But, I was being greedy and I am happy for those who will now NOT miss it during the holidays.

Ive seen the preview videos and the artist renditions thats been posted on here, sure didnt see no plywood cut-outs ! Im looking forward to seeing this, and how they have made something i thought was great, and improved it ! It might have "only" taken 7 months to install, but dont you think alot was pre-planned and pre-built to cut down the "down" time?

The preview videos I saw did look very much like 2-d painted flats and day glow wire frames lit up with blacklights. see 3:10

Still hopefully your perception prevails. And I suppose those scenes ARE better then the old barebones warehouse look. To both points, that is not Sarcasm.

            exactly.

This ride is either going to be better or worse but either way no point in being negative about a ride that hasn't even reopened yet. Excited to see what's new with TT.

On this video.. it frightens me how often they refer to the new experiences in the ride as "digital". I am curious to see how they plan on moving thousands of visitors through the attractions when everyone is required to create a car design that "follows" them up until the post show. That concerns me as it sounds way too complicated and not all that enjoyable. Visions of people standing there for "digital" station to be vacated come to mind.
To think.. that I would be happy just to see that horrid ceiling in front of Test Track nto torn down. I can only hope the ride experience and new show elements will be worth what appears to be a very small refurbishing.

This was my thought exactly. My other question is how will they incorporate the outside portion since the inside is supposed to be a digital realm? It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Simple. That's the part in which you take the car from concept to reality.

That sounds about right! I just hope they do the crash part still. That was my favorite part of the last attraction.

the redo will be a lot like the monsters Inc redo IMO. Lots of repurposing and redressing.. combined with some effects and additions. But if you are familiar with the original, you can virtually trace the original throughout. The environmental rooms are just going to be redressed.. some of the other areas will be repurposed, but we know the core to be the same. I wonder if they will redo the handling and braking sections or just redress them with new soundtrack, props and lighting.

Lots of change.. but mostly superficial stuff.. but enough to change the setting of it all.

The interior conceptual artwork looks kind of Tron-ish to me, but I suppose flynnibus can be the judge of that. :-).

I wonder when riding the re-enhased Test Track if we'll have snow, an old crash-test dummy and lots of Coke-Cola in the new cars. (See Article for photo.)

Track B was there for effect. It didn't lead anywhere.

Test Track was dull dull dull inside the building. Anything they do will be a big improvement, but after Journey to the Center of the Earth and Radiator Springs Racers, they have a really high standard to meet.

The transformation of Superstar Limo into Monster's Inc at DCA cost $35 million bucks and they did an excellent job. It's a great ride. I'm sure they're spending far more on the new version of Test Track, and 7 months is plenty of time to completely rebuild the interior. Remember: the ride system, track, and exterior building are not changing.

Yes Monsters Inc at DCA is technically a very solid dark ride, but, like test track 1.0, it does not fit the theme of the area. Time will tell whether this virtual test track version will fit theme any better.

I hope that they have re-imagined the exterior portion of the Test Track ride. I don't want to see the backstage area or parking lot. The outside landscaping for RSR at DCA is awesome.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the outdoor portion of the ride. I wonder if this will still be part of the digital design theme or if we're going to break out of the computer into the real world. Either way something should be done with the scenery around the loop. Naked box buildings and parking lots aren't going to cut it anymore. And with the track being so high, there's a lot of view to fill.
It bothers me when people selectively edit quotes to support whatever point they are trying to prove.
