  • [Idea] Studio Ghibli Attraction for Epcot

Here's my proposal for a new film in the Japan Pavilion,

It's called Rising Sun: The Story and Magic of Japan

Here's a video preview of What Studio Ghibli has done. This is the kind of amazing and heartfelt work I would like to see added in an Epcot attraction.

What it would be is a thirty minute film animated by Studio Ghibli (preferably Hayao Miyazaki) that shows the history and culture of Japan. They could go into detail about things like:

*Travel's to China that brought Buddhism and a writing system
    *The Samurai Warriors
    *Sumo
*The significance of their Art and Cuisine
    *High Tech Industries

The only trouble spot would be how to address World War II.

Let's say the film is the feature presentation with a post show being a Studio Ghibli museum.

    How does this sound?

I'd be happy with just a Totoro meet n greet.

Disney would have to own it for that, and I prefer they didn't own it. Studio Ghibli is perfect as is

Well Martin Smith has said on "that other forum" that there have been considerations for a Japan Dark Ride in the recent months.

it makes sense. if your trying to add attractions and activities to the park, why not utilize the empty buildings that originally were going to house them. they can make storage back stage elsewhere.

A Ghibli dark ride would be amazing. Disney distribute their movies in the west and John Lasseter is a fan and has supervised dubbing some of the movies so there is hope we could see something at Epcot. Fingers crossed

World Showcase is just begging for more attractions. Not coasters specifically. But attractions that would make thematical sense in each country. The possibilities are endless.

Re: Studio Ghibli Attraction for Epcot

Ahhh, I would LOVE a Ghibli attraction. My only concern is, if it isn't the film the TC described, how would Disney get permission to utilize the characters in the parks?

Also, if they DO end up putting in an attraction related to Ghibli, or any anime, I would also like for their exhibit space (if it isn't used as part of a queue) to highlight some other aspect of Japanese culture.

On the topic of the idea presented by TC... Sadly Miyazaki would have no hand in it. He retired within the last month and I find it unlikely he'd come out of it to aid in the creation of a theme park attraction. It would be a good alternative to the show originally planned for the pavilion. However, if The American Adventure can gloss over WW2, I can see no reason such a film about Japan- a culture with a much longer historical background than America's- cannot as well.
